COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Lady Tigers took the road to battle the #10 Columbia College Cougars in Columbia, Missouri. Campbellsville took the win with back-to-back goals in the last five minutes of play, 4-3.
The Lady Tigers were first on the scoreboard with a goal by Amelie Matheis, assisted by Momo Chogyoji at the 21-minute mark. Marta Prieto and Laura Munoz both attempted shots for Campbellsville, which the Cougars' goalie saved. At the end of the first half, the Lady Tigers led 1-0.
Chogyoji's avid assists persisted throughout the game, aiding Lina Berrah in scoring the second goal for Campbellsville. Halfway through the second half, Columbia scored their first goal of the match. Oddny Helgadottir attempted to widen the gap on the score with a shot, but it was too wide to connect. With only ten minutes remaining in the game, the Cougars tied the score with a corner kick goal. The Lady Tigers' defense struggled to block Columbia, as they stole the lead with another goal only a minute later. Molly Metcalfe tied the score shortly after, followed by Marta Prieto reclaiming the lead for Campbellsville with less than two minutes left in the game.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action, traveling to St. Louis to continue their weekend in Missouri. Campbellsville will battle the Missouri Baptist University Spartans on Saturday, August 31st, beginning at 6 p.m. ET.
