Five-set match ends in favor of Blue Raiders

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Tigers traveled to Columbia, Kentucky, to take on the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders for their first Battle of Highway 55 matchup of the season. Facing an electric crowd, the Tigers fell short to the Blue Raiders in five sets, 3-2.

To start the first set, Lindsey Wilson started the game with a kill, but the Tigers were not discouraged and went on a 9-0 run. Emily Aabye, Brooke Hager, and Jana Krstic all had a pair of kills in the run to pull away from the Blue Raiders. Campbellsville's offensive pressure bested Lindsey Wilson as the Tigers allowed few points throughout the set, awarding Campbellsville the set, 25-10.

A kill from Krstic opened up the second set, and Campbellsville continued their hot streak. Cierra Merrick scored three kills in a row for the Tigers, all assisted by Krstic. However, the Blue Raiders fought their way back and made it a game. After a long second set, the Blue Raiders stole the set, 25-23.

After Campbellsville dropped a hard-fought set, Hager and the Tigers came out with a vengeance and went on a 7-1 run. Though the Tigers seemed to have a hot hand, the Blue Raiders went on a run of their own. Mid-way through the set, it became a back and forth game, with both teams only allowing one point each. Campbellsville finished the third strong, winning 25-22.

Opening the fourth set, Lindsey Wilson started it off with a kill. The Blue Raiders came out hot and went on a mini-run, but the Tigers did not go down without a fight. Multiple kills from Aabye and Merrick brought the Tigers close, but in the end, the Blue Raiders took the set, 25-21.

Campbellsville scored the first point of the fifth set with a service ace from Marisa Gallardo. With the match on the line, neither team was backing down, and both teams played evenly. However, one last push from Lindsey Wilson landed them over the Tigers to grab the final set, 16-14.

Campbellsville will be back in action on September 12th, traveling to New Albany, Indiana, to take on the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
