CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #20 Lady Tigers hosted the Brescia Bearcats on Tuesday night where Campbellsville held Brescia to a single goal in a staggering 10-1 victory.
In just the opening minutes of the match,
Amelie Matheis scored the first goal. Shortly after,
Lina Berrah followed with another for the Lady Tigers assisted by
Marta Prieto. With a corner kick by Merle Houweling,
Alba Vea smashed in a header, amplifying Campbellsville's growing advantage. Only a minute later,
Momo Chogyoji landed another goal for the Lady Tigers, Matheis agilely assisting her fellow player. Campbellsville did not cease to racking more goals as
McKenzie Settles and
Marta Prieto then put the Lady Tigers at 7-0 by the end of the first half.
Within four minutes of the start of the second half,
Paula Sanabria came off the bench with another striking Lady Tiger score. The Bearcats made it to the scoreboard at the 60-minute mark with their first goal of the match. Settles avidly kicked the ball straight past Brescia's goalie for Campbellsville's ninth goal of the night and then Matheis scored the final goal of her hat trick to conclude the contest, 10-1.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action Saturday, September 21st, hosting the University of Jamestown Jimmies beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
- Campbellsville outperformed Brescia in most statistical categories of the match: goals (10-1), assists (7-1), shots (31-6), shots on goal (18-5).
- Matheis recorded a new season high for goals (three), shots (eight), and shots on goal (five) in a match; Sayu Morisawa also recorded a new season high for shots in a match with five.
- Campbellsville has not lost a match against Brescia since 2002; since then, the Bearcats had only scored one goal against the Lady Tigers until tonight.
- Tonight's match put the Lady Tigers 7-0 for the season; this is the first time since 2015 that Campbellsville has been undefeated in the first seven matches of the year.
