Tigers earn tenth sweep of the season with 3-0 victory over Eagles

MIDWAY, Ky. – The Campbellsville Tigers traveled to face the Midway Eagles on Tuesday night. The Tigers' tenacious spirit earned them their 10th sweep of the season, extending their four-match win streak.

Starting the initial set, the Tigers came out with a bang, in part to Jana Krstic assisting a Brooke Hager kill. Though Campbellsville came out strong, the Eagles stayed par with the Tigers. Krstic assisted a kill from Molly Shannon to give the Tigers a two-point lead midway through the first set. Campbellsville was tenacious and racked up kills from multiple Tigers to put them over the Eagles. Emily Aabye and Hager finished the set with an exclamation and denied the Eagles the first set, 25-18.

Opening the second set, the Tigers were on the scoreboard first, but like the first set, the Eagles remained even. Errors from Midway allowed the Tigers to jump out to an 11-6 lead. However, the teams found themselves knotted halfway through the second set. A late surge from Cierra Merrick, Shannon, and Hager put the Eagles in a bind but were unable to respond. Merrick finished off the Eagles with a kill assisted by Krstic, awarding Campbellsville the second set, 25-20.

Shannon opened the third with a kill, and the Tigers quickly pounced to a 10-point lead. Despite efforts from Midway to get back into the game, Merrick and the Tigers did not let the Eagles deter them. Merrick ended the third with a kill, allowing the Tigers to take the final set, 25-16.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, September 27th, in Gosser Gymnasium to face off against the Freed-Hardeman University Lions. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.

  • Merrick led with 13 kills, Krstic assisted the Tigers 34 times, and Shannon led the way in digs with 10. Krstic passed the 700 mark in total assists for the 2024 season.
  • The Tigers clicked on both sides of the ball, besting Midway in every statistical category. They collected 55 total points with a hitting percentage of .365 compared to the Eagles' 46 points and .144 hitting percentage.
  • This was only the second matchup the two teams had, with the first occurring in the 2023 season. Both matches ended with Campbellsville sweeping the Eagles, 3-0.
