CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -—The #3 Lady Tigers hosted the Miami University Middletown Thunderhawks on Saturday. Lauren Lee (1,427) surpassed Head Coach Ginger High's (1,422) total career points during the victory against Miami Middletown while Maddie Nalley posted a career-high 16 points on perfect shooting and logged her first career double-double.
Whitney Hay put the Lady Tigers up on the scoreboard first with back-to-back layups. The Thunderhawks finally etched points three minutes into the game. Tyra Flowers and Lee kept Campbellsville ahead, until Miami Middletown tied the score halfway through the first quarter. Maddie Nalley came off the bench with a layup, reclaiming the Lady Tigers' lead. Hallie Allen followed with a three-point bucket that widened the gap on the scoreboard. Nalley and Flowers' defensive rebounds asserted Campbellsville's dominance on the court. Dea Bradley avidly assisted Flowers in scoring in the paint, increasing the Lady Tigers' advantage to ten points over the Thunderhawks. At the end of the first quarter, Campbellsville led 29-17. Miami Middletown's three-point striking quickly became their biggest strength as the second quarter approached, as they scored their third basket beyond the arc. However, Paige Serafini counteracted their efforts with a three of her own. The Thunderhawks continued to capitalize from shots beyond the arc as the quarter unfolded, but the Lady Tigers' action in the paint proved too strong for Miami Middletown to catch up. At the half, Campbellsville remained ahead, 53, 36.
Although the Thunderhawks scored a layup in the first couple of minutes of the second half, the Lady Tigers' defense prevented them from making any successful shots. Campbellsville collected steal after steal, benefitting from Miami Middletown's turnovers to maintain control over the ball. Much like the first half, the Lady Tigers came into the third quarter with unrelenting action in the paint. The Thunderhawks only managed to score again until halfway through the third. Miami Middletown attempted to catch up with Campbellsville's lead, collecting baskets to decrease their deficit on the scoreboard, although the Lady Tigers remained over 20 points ahead. Going into the final quarter, Campbellsville led, 77-54. The Thunderhawks elevated their efforts to get defensive rebounds and gain control of the ball, but Nalley and Talynne Shearer's swift baskets increased the Lady Tigers' upper hand and Miami Middletown was unable to catch up. Campbellsville closed the game with a victory, 96-60.
