Hay, Lee combine for 39 as #3 Lady Tigers take 76-64 victory over #7 Georgetown

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The #3 Lady Tigers hosted the #7 Georgetown College Tigers on Thursday night. After a relentless battle of the Tigers for the win, Campbellsville came out victorious, 76-64.

Lauren Lee made the Lady Tigers first on the scoreboard with a layup in the opening seconds of the game. The opposing Tigers collected their first couple of points of the night from the charity stripe shortly after. Tyra Flowers and Whitney Hay got Campbellsville ahead by a few buckets, reaching double digits on the scoreboard. The Lady Tigers continued to widen the gap on the scoreboard with their sharp baskets in the paint. The opposing Tigers attempted to retaliate beyond the arc but struggled to convert, collecting multiple missed three-point shots. In the last couple of minutes of the first quarter, Georgetown caught up to Campbellsville's lead, tying the score. As the opposing Tigers stood at the free-throw line in the closing seconds of the contest, the Lady Tigers lost the lead, trailing Georgetown at the end of the first ten minutes of play, 17-15.

In the opening minutes of the second quarter, Hay reclaimed Campbellsville's lead. The Lady Tigers' defense fought to preserve their advantage, but the opposing Tigers struck back, once again tying the score halfway through the period. Georgetown primarily capitalized off Campbellsville's fouls to aid them in keeping the score tied as the opposing Tigers struggled to convert any baskets. Georgetown collected a couple of three-point buckets as the clock expired, but the Lady Tigers' steadfast retaliation kept them ahead at the half, 33-27.

As the third quarter unfolded, both teams' fouls increased significantly, and both faced opportunities at the charity stripe time after time. Campbellsville held the lead, collecting steals from the opposing Tigers' turnovers and scoring in the paint. The contest only turned more fouls-heavy, as the action on the court turned more aggressive in a relentless battle to grasp control over the upper hand. Talynne Shearer's jumpers asserted the Lady Tigers' dominance on the court in the closing moments of the third quarter. Campbellsville's rebounding secured them the advantage going into the final quarter, 53-48.

Georgetown struggled to keep control of the ball in the beginning minutes of the fourth quarter, preserving the Lady Tigers' lead, as they kept the opposing Tigers' on at least a five-point deficit on the scoreboard. Campbellsville reached their largest lead of the game, holding a 13-point advantage over Georgetown with less than three minutes left in the final quarter. The opposing Tigers continued to collect points at the charity stripe, but not enough to counteract the Lady Tigers' unrelenting offensive strikes.
