Tigers land runner-up finish at NAIA Marathon Classic; Batel earns All-American honors with individual 7th-place finish

DALLAS, Texas – The Campbellsville University men's cross country team put together a three-man team to take on the NAIA Marathon Classic hosted during the BMW Dallas Marathon on Sunday.

The Tigers' team included Martin Batel, Aaron Smith, and Jean-Benoit Merte. Campbellsville earned the runner-up team finish with 23 points, trailing only Indiana University East, which had six points.

Batel was named an NAIA Marathon All-American after finishing seventh individually with a time of 2:30:59. Smith wasn't too far behind for ninth place, running a time of 2:32:42. Merte made the top 15 with a time of 2:33:37 for 12th place.

Head Coach Chase Bulten stated, "Tough conditions and course made it a difficult task, but they all executed smart race plans. Aaron Smith and Jean-Benoit put together a strong second half that moved us up to second as a team. Martin executed a consistent race for seventh."

The Tigers now look ahead to their upcoming season on the track, traveling to Nashville, Tennessee, to participate in the Vanderbilt Invitational on January 16th and 17th.
