Three individual titles lead the Tigers to a 3rd place finish at the Mid-South Conference Championship

LOUISVILLE, KY - CamRon Hamby, Dominic Malel, and Lukas Smithson led the Tigers on Thursday to a 3rd place finish at the Mid-South Conference Championships.

Hamby, who is still ranked #1 in the country in the triple jump this season, added another accolade to his already impressive resume for Campbellsville. He won the triple jump crown on his fifth attempt of the day with a mark of 14.42m after trailing Cumberland University's Amir Mersal, who hit 14.27m early in the event. Corey Smith II and David Young both added points from the triple jump. Smith placed 7th overall at 13.68m, and Young was 8th at 13.66m. 

Malel has won his second 5,000m race in the past five days. He won the conference title at the distance with a school record of 14:48.00 and made a move in the final 50m of the race to win by .17 over Cumberlands Noah McClellan at 14:48.17. Martin Batel and Aaron Smith both finished in back-to-back spots in the race. Batel was 7th overall in 15:30.77, and Smith was 8th in 15:39.65. Lukas had a similar finish in his 1,000m conference title. He made a surge in the final 200m and created a gap in the final 50m of the race, where he won by .64 in 2:29.22 and broke Sam Kiser's school record of 2:29.28. Alex Steen and Dustin Ralph both scored points in the 1,000m. Steen was 4th just off the podium at 2:36.85, and Ralph placed 7th at 2:49.25.

Devin Girtman and Kamarion Ward gave Campbellsville three points from the 200m. Girtman was 7th overall in 22.09, and Ward placed 8th in 22.14. Ward was in the 400m, where he placed 5th in 49.16, which breaks Makiyah Stowe's record of 49.35. Ethan Johnson and Dakota Brady both gave the team key points in the mile. Johnson placed 5th overall in 4:29.88, and Brady was directly behind in 6th at 4:31.32.

Malel earned a second podium finish in the 3,000m run with his bronze medal in the event. He ran a time of 8:41.75, Batel was close in 5th in 8:54.37, Lukas placed 7th in 9:07.06, and Jean Benoit Merte brought in a point in 8th place at 9:07.78. 

William Riley was the lone Tiger in the 60m hurdle finals where he gave Campbellsville three points for his performance placing 6th overall at 9.84. The 4x400m relay was .09 seconds off an NAIA B Standard with a 3:19.09. Zachary Phelps, Matthias Brice, Ward, and Isaiah Bain were able to place 4th overall giving the team five points and setting a new school record in the process. 

Back-to-back bronze medals came in both of the distance relays. In the 4x800m relay, Brady, Kannon Cundiff, Samuel Larson, and Johnson earned the bronze in 8:43.40. In the distance medley relay, Myles, Brice, Lukas, and Steen finished the event in 10:56.05. 

Raylon Wilson made his way to the podium in the high jump. Wilson cleared 1.95m on his second attempt that got him the bronze medal in the event. Both Wilson and Hamby combined for ten points in the long jump. Hamby jumped his way to a bronze medal mark of 7.00m, while Wilson was 4th at 6.64m. 

Seth Cartwright led a trio of Tigers in the shot put. Cartwright won the bronze medal with his best throw landing at 14.37m, Joel Roberts was directly behind Cartwright in 4th with a throw of 13.11m, and Jonah Oliver placed 6th overall at 12.60m. Oliver led the way in the weight throw for Campbellsville. Oliver was .07 off, becoming the bronze medalist in the event, placing 4th with a mark of 14.11m, Cartwright placed 5th behind Oliver at 13.79m, and Roberts earned one final point in the event in 8th at 13.07m. 

Campbellsville will now look towards the NAIA National Championship in two weeks in Gainesville, Florida, from February 27th through March 1st.
