Campbellsville bests #4 Southern Oregon; Pitcock ties Davis, Smith for most home runs beating Avila

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Campbellsville University Lady Tigers concluded their Oklahoma trip with a pair of impressive victories,  first conquering the #4 Southern Oregon University Raiders and then triumphing over the Avila University Eagles. The Lady Tigers unleashed an offensive onslaught, capped off by a historic performance by Caroline Pitcock who blasted three home runs in the day's finale.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 6, Southern Oregon 3

The Lady Tigers set the tone early,  jumping to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Korey Harris reached base with a lead-off walk and quickly stole second, putting herself in scoring position for Jessie Daniels who delivered a clutch single to bring Harris home.

After a quiet second and third inning, Southern Oregon finally found their footing in the fourth.  A lead-off triple followed by a double put the Raiders on the board, tying the game at 1-1.  But Campbellsville responded with authority in the bottom half of the frame. Daniels, not to be outdone,  launched a solo home run over the left field fence, reclaiming the lead for the Lady Tigers.

The offensive fireworks continued.  Emily Reynolds lined a single through the left side to score Camille Conkright.  Then, with two runners on, Rylee Warner stepped to the plate and the freshman connected on the first pitch she saw, sending a towering three-run homer over the center field wall for her first collegiate home run.

The Raiders threatened a comeback in the seventh, stringing together a pair of singles to score two runs. But the Lady Tigers' defense held strong, securing the 6-3 victory.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 13, Avila 8

The second game was a wild offensive affair. Avila proved prepared against Campbellsville starter, Emily Reynolds, with three runs in the first, highlighted by a two-RBI single.  But the Lady Tigers, unfazed by the early deficit, answered back in the second. Caroline Pitcock launched a solo home run deep over the left-center field fence to get Campbellsville on the board.

Avila refused to relinquish the lead, adding to their tally with a solo home run and an RBI single in the bottom of the second.  However, the Lady Tigers' bats erupted in the third. Daniels, showcasing her power,  smashed a two-run homer to right field, and Pitcock followed suit with her second home run of the game, a towering shot to left field that tied the game at sixes.

The fifth inning belonged to Campbellsville. Selynna Metcalfe ignited the rally with a two-run homer, and Pitcock, in a record-setting performance, blasted her third home run of the game, a solo shot to center field that gave the Lady Tigers the lead for good. The hits kept coming as Conkright, Harris, and Reynolds each contributed RBI singles, and Daniels capped off the scoring with an RBI double.

Avila battled back with a run in the sixth and a solo home run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Lady Tigers' offensive firepower. The final score stood at 13-8 in favor of Campbellsville.

The Lady Tigers will look to carry this momentum into their home opener doubleheader against the Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus Lions on Wednesday, February 26th, beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
