Campbellsville catches fire putting up 33 runs in wins over Oakwood

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The #23 Lady Tigers took on the Oakwood University Ambassadors on their fourth day in Alabama. Campbellsville closed their trip down south with back-to-back victories against Oakwood, their line-up's well-rounded hitting on showcase.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 16, Oakwood 0

Korey Harris opened the game, earning a free base. Emily Reynolds followed with a single to center field, bringing Harris to score the first Lady Tiger run of the day. Reynolds did not take much longer to cross the plate as Caroline Pitcock stepped up to bat with a double to left field. Although the Ambassadors opened the bottom of the first with a single to second base, Campbellsville quickly put them away shortly after. The second inning was short-lived for both teams, putting each other away in a three-up, three-down fashion.

With a double to left field, Reynolds brought Harris home again, increasing the Lady Tigers advantage. Oakwood had yet to make it to the scoreboard, once again being put away in a three-up, three-down style at the bottom of the third.

At the start of the top of the fourth, Harris, Jillian Jeffires, and Hannah Hackworth loaded Campbellsville's bases. Reynolds reached base on an error by shortstop, bringing Hackworth across the plate for another run. Rylee Warner only increased the Lady Tigers' momentum with a single to left field, resulting in another run by Jeffries. Once again, Harris collected another run after a single down the left field line by Jessie Daniels. A sacrifice fly from Pitcock resulted in another run by Reynolds, followed by two more runs from Daniels and Warner after a 2-RBI from Hackworth. The Ambassadors collected a hit throughout their share of the inning but could not score.

Camille Conkright crossed the plate with Harris's single to left field, putting Campbellsville at double digits on the scoreboard. Harris collected another run shortly after. Daniels and Pitcock scored back-to-back home runs to rack up three more runs for the Lady Tigers, asserting Campbellsville's dominance on the field. Macy McCoy and Madison Reed came into the game with back-to-back runs after two singles by Harris and Jeffries, closing the game with a victory and leaving Oakwood scoreless, 16-0.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 17, Oakwood 6

Harris began the game strong with a free base, advancing to second on a wild pitch and stealing third base. Reynolds singled to center field to bring Harris in for the first run of the second game. After stealing second base, Reynolds advanced to third and scored another run, both on passed balls. With a double to left field, Pitcock collected a 2-RBI, bringing Daniels and Warner across the plate. Ashby Murt, Reynolds, Harris, and Taylor Windell collected more runs for Campbellsville, building a 9-0 lead going into the bottom of the first. The Ambassadors came into the bottom of the inning with a single to center field, unable to score before going into the second.

Windell tripled to right field in the second's opening, bringing Murt and Pitcock home. Windell followed shortly after with a sacrifice fly by Annabelle Knoop. Oakwood doubled to center field during the bottom of the second to collect their first run of the day.

Campbellsville loaded their bases as Makayla Hogg reached base on an error by third base during the top of the third, Camby Cheek scoring one run before switching sides with the Ambassadors. Oakwood's share of the inning was highlighted by two hits, closing their time at bat with loaded bases before being put away.

Ashton Wheeler entered the game with a single to left field in the top of the fourth, bringing McCoy across the plate for the Lady Tigers' fourteenth run. Although the Ambassadors reached base on an error by third base, they struggled to collect another run before being put away.

Knoop, Hogg, and McCoy collected back-to-back runs during the top of the fifth, putting Campbellsville 16 runs ahead of Oakwood. Although the Ambassadors collected five runs during their share of the inning, it was not enough to catch up with the Lady Tigers, losing 17-6.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action, traveling to Wilmore, Kentucky, to battle the Asbury University Eagles in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 19th, beginning at 1 & 3 p.m. ET.
