CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #25 Lady Tigers hosted the Georgetown College Tigers for their first home conference match-up of the season on Friday afternoon. Behind a no-hitter from
Emma Markham and three home runs, Campbellsville won the first game of the series, 8-0.
The Lady Tigers quickly put the opposing Tigers away in a three-up, three-down fashion during the first inning.
Emily Reynolds collected a hit in the bottom of the first but was unable to cross home plate before the inning ended.
Similar to the first inning, Georgetown's top of the second was short-lived, ending in a three-up, three-down manner.
Jessie Daniels opened the bottom of the second with a single to right field.
Caroline Pitcock then stepped up to the plate and hit a two-RBI home run to center field, bringing Daniels home.
The opposing Tigers were still scoreless after their turn in the third inning. Although
Camille Conkright managed a single up the middle, she was unable to score before the end of the inning.
Georgetown's top of the fourth also saw a three-up, three-down performance from Campbellsville. In the bottom of the fourth,
Rylee Warner and Daniels hit back-to-back home runs to right-center, which further expanded the Lady Tigers' lead. Pitcock added another run for Campbellsville on a passed ball, and
Selynna Metcalfe followed up with a single to right-center, bringing in Conkright.
Korey Harris then reached home with a triple, also bringing Conkright in with her.
The rival Tigers managed to get a walk with two outs in the top of the fifth, but they were unable to score, leaving the Lady Tigers with an early lead of 8-0.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action for the second day of the home series against the Georgetown College Tigers tomorrow, Saturday, March 22, beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
- Markham's no-hitter is the seventh in team history and the first since 2016. The other pitchers who have accomplished this feat are Victoria Decker (three times) and Neely Quint (three times).
- Campbellsville outperformed Georgetown in most statistical categories, notably in hits (9-0), home runs (3-0), and OPS (1.637 to 0.063).
- Harris and Reynolds led the Lady Tigers with three at-bats each, while Daniels and Conkright each had two hits. Daniels and Pitcock each scored two runs. Markham finished the game with four strikeouts on 15 at-bats.
- Today's victory marks Campbellsville's 60th win overall and their fourth consecutive victory against Georgetown. Since then, the Lady Tigers have only allowed four runs from the rival Tigers.
