WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The #25 Lady Tigers, riding a six-game winning streak, took on the #4 Cumberlands Patriots Friday afternoon in the first of their three-contest Mid-South Conference face-off. The Patriots slowed the hot Lady Tigers to a 10-2 finish.
Cumberlands established an early advantage in the first inning. After a Patriot walked and stole second and third, she scored on a throwing error, giving Cumberlands a 1-0 lead.
The Patriots extended their lead in the second inning from a home run, 2-0.
Cumberlands broke the game open in the third inning with a three-run rally. Later in the inning, the Patriots reached on a fielder's choice, scoring another run, and then singled to right center, bringing in an unearned run and pushing their lead to 5-0.
Cumberlands added three more runs in the fourth inning. A double to left center brought home a run, and then another double to right field scored one more. A single to right field resulted in another RBI, increasing Cumberlands' lead to 8-0.
Campbellsville managed to get on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning.
Selynna Metcalfe singled to center field, and
Hannah Hackworth followed with a single.
Taylor Windell singled to center, driving in Metcalfe.
Madison Reed hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Hackworth and cutting Cumberlands' lead to 8-2.
Cumberlands countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the victory.
The Lady Tigers return for the second day of the series on Saturday with the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
