Lady Tigers come up short in MSC final; battle ends in favor of Wildcats, 54-47

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The #2 Lady Tigers took on the #5 Bethel University Lady Wildcats for the Mid-South Conference Tournament final. Campbellsville struggled to regain the lead after the first quarter, falling to Bethel, 54-47.

The Lady Wildcats scored the first bucket of the game in the opening seconds of the first quarter. Whitney Hay followed with a five-point run to steal the advantage. Both teams remained close to one another, stealing the lead and tying the score back-and-forth as the quarter unfolded. With an exchange of baskets in the paint, the first quarter ended with a tie, 17-17.

Dea Bradley came off the bench with a layup to steal the lead in the opening of the second quarter. Talynne Shearer scored another layup shortly after, and Hay assisted her teammates in scoring more buckets for Campbellsville. For the next few minutes, the game came to a scoring halt as neither team managed to advance past the other's defense. With shots from both beyond the arc and short-range, the end of the first half approached with Bethel leading, 33-29.

The first few minutes of the second half did not see any scoring. The Lady Wildcats broke the scoring drought with a layup, Tyra Flowers counteracting their efforts with a layup of her own. Lauren Lee increased her action in the paint with two jumpers; however, Bethel remained ahead by no less than five points. Halfway through the third quarter, the Lady Wildcats took control of the ball, going on an eight-point run and not allowing the Lady Tigers to score. Hallie Allen scored the last bucket of the quarter with only 20 seconds left on the clock. Going into the final ten minutes of play, Campbellsville trailed Bethel by ten points, 47-37.

As the fourth quarter unfolded, the Lady Wildcats scored a three and a layup to remain ahead and reach their largest lead of the night, holding 14 points over the Lady Tigers. Campbellsville's pressure prevented them from scoring any further, forcing them into multiple turnovers. However, despite their defensive intensity, halfway through the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers were yet to score from the field, their only points being collected from the charity stripe. Maddie Nalley and Bradley each collected a layup with less than one minute left in the game. Campbellsville was unable to claw back and steal the lead, falling to Bethel, 54-47.

  • Two Lady Tigers reached double digits throughout tonight's game: Lee with 13 points and Hay with 12. Flowers led with seven rebounds, and Hay with four assists and three steals.
  • Before tonight, Campbellsville had not lost a game against Bethel since 2022, breaking their six-consecutive winning streak. Tonight's defeat is the Lady Tigers' fourth-ever loss against the Lady Wildcats.
