Gulf Coast Invite ends in split for Lady Tigers

GULF SHORES, Ala.- The #23 Lady Tigers battled the #15 Louisiana State University Alexandria Generals and the College of Saint Mary Flames during the second day of the Gulf Coast Invitational. Campbellsville left the Gulf Coast winning one, losing one on the final day.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 0, LSU Alexandria 7

The game began with a slow start as Campbellsville struggled to find their rhythm, being put away quickly in the top of the first inning. LSU Alexandria took the opportunities to collect a couple of singles and earn an early lead bringing two batters across the plate.

Caroline Pitcock opened the second inning doubling down the left field line, but the Lady Tigers were unable to capitalize, leaving two runners on base. Although the Generals reached base via walk, they were not able to collect any runs during their share of the second. Both teams collected hits throughout the third inning, but neither brought home any batters.

Although Jessie Daniels came into the fourth inning earning a base via walk, she couldn't score before switching sides with LSU Alexandria. With a 2-RBI, the Generals extended their lead in the opening of the bottom of the inning. LSU Alexandria's momentum only strengthened, as they collected three more runs with a double and a sacrifice fly.

Although both teams saw multiple players collecting singles and free bases, neither scored any further throughout the remaining three innings of play, resulting in a victory for the Generals, 7-0.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 10, Saint Mary 2

The Flames were put away in three-up, three-down fashion quickly. Emily Reynolds and Rylee Warner each singled to center field, followed by Daniels reaching base via walk, loading the Lady Tigers' bases. Reynolds crossed the plate with a sacrifice fly by Caroline Pitcock, followed by Warner and Daniels after a single down the left field line by Selynna Metcalfe.

Saint Mary loaded their bases throughout the top of the second with three batters reaching base via walk. However, none of the Flames managed to score before switching sides with Campbellsville. Annabelle Knoop continued to expand the Lady Tigers' lead after Warner reached base on a fielder's choice.

With an error by right field, Saint Mary made their way to the scoreboard after a 2-RBI in the top of the third. Pitcock collected a double to left field during the bottom of the inning, however, Campbellsville couldn't collect any runs.

The fourth inning was short lived for both teams. The Flames collected a single, unable to score and the Lady Tigers put away in three-up, three-down style.

Much like the fourth, Saint Mary collected a hit in the opening of the fifth inning, but runs didn't materialize before Campbellsville stepped up to the plate. Metcalfe scored the first home run of the game, bringing Pitcock along with her to cross home. Taylor Windell, Conkright, and Korey Harris each collected a run to widen the gap on the scoreboard and take a commanding 10-2 victory over the Flames.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action Tuesday March 11th to battle the Oakwood University Ambassadors in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
