Freed-Hardeman's hitting proves too much for Lady Tigers on first day of series

HENDERSON, Tenn. The (RV) Lady Tigers took the road to battle the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions on Friday night for a doubleheader. The Lady Lions more than doubled the Lady Tigers' hits each contest. Even so, Campbellsville went into the second game up two runs in the final inning but could not keep the Lady Lions' bats under wraps, falling again.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 4, Freed-Hardeman 11
Emily Reynolds scored first for the Lady Tigers after a double to left field from Selynna Metcalfe. The Lady Lions tied the score with a single to left field during the bottom of the inning.

Although Korey Harris collected a single at the top of the second, Campbellsville could not score before switching sides with Freed-Hardeman. The Lady Lions got ahead with two more runs during the bottom of the inning.

Madison Reed came into the game with a double to left field, bringing Ashby Murt home to come closer to Freed-Hardeman's upper hand. However, the Lady Lions expanded their advantage with a two-run homer to center field.

Metcalfe and Caroline Pitcock decreased Campbellsville's deficit on the scoreboard with two more runs during the bottom of the fifth. Freed-Hardeman retaliated with another run during the top of the inning.

Even though Reynolds opened the sixth inning reaching base via walk, she could not cross home before the Lady Tigers were put away. The Lady Lions' portion of the sixth propelled them forward on the lead with four back-to-back runs to bring them to double digits.

Campbellsville was unable to jump back and steal the lead, and it was put away in a three-up, three-down fashion during the seventh inning, losing the game.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 4, Freed-Hardeman 6
After a hit by a pitch to Harris and a free base for Reynolds, Daniels singled to right field to bring Harris to score the game's first run. The Lady Lions collected a single to center field but could not score during their share of the first.

Campbellsville's top of the second was short-lived, put away in a three-up, three-down style. Freed-Hardeman tied the score during the bottom of the inning after a single to first base.

The Lady Tigers reclaimed their lead as Warner doubled to left field to bring Daniels across the plate, following shortly after alongside Metcalfe for two more Campbellsville runs on a throwing error by the Lady Lions' pitcher. Freed-Hardeman doubled to right field to reach the plate for their second run of the game.

The fourth inning did not last long for either team. The Lady Tigers put it away in a three-up, three-down fashion, and the Lady Lions, with a single to left field, could not capitalize. Both teams collected hits throughout the fifth and sixth innings, but neither was yet to score again, and Campbellsville clung to its advantage.

As the Lady Tigers could not score during their share of the seventh, Freed-Hardeman stole the lead during the bottom of the seventh with two hits to bring in two more runs and a two-run home run to surpass Campbellsville by two runs.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, April 19th, to finish the three-game series against the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
