Lady Tigers split first day of MSC Tournament

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Campbellsville University Lady Tiger Softball team showed a day of mixed results at the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament Thursday. Campbellsville secured a dominant 10-2 victory over Bethel University, but later fell to Freed-Hardeman University with a score of 5-1.

GAME ONE: Campbellsville 10, Bethel 2
The Lady Tigers surged into an early lead in the first inning. Korey Harris singled through the left side, and Emily Reynolds followed with a two-run home run to center field, driving in Harris and putting Campbellsville ahead 2-0. Campbellsville extended their lead significantly in the second inning, scoring five runs. Ashby Murt was hit by a pitch, Madison Reed doubled down the left field line, driving in Murt, and Reynolds doubled to left center, bringing home two more runs. Jessie Daniels then homered to left center, driving in two runs and increasing the score to 7-0. 

Campbellsville added to their lead in the third inning when Reed hit a two-run home run, scoring herself and Murt. In the fourth inning, Selynna Metcalfe singled to left field, bringing in Daniels and making the score 10-0.

Bethel managed to score two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but that wasn't enough to prevent the run-rule victory for the Lady Tigers.

Campbellsville tallied ten runs on 11 hits without committing any errors, while Bethel scored two runs on six hits and made one error.  

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 1, Freed-Hardeman 5
Freed-Hardeman seized an early advantage, scoring two runs in the first inning with a two-run homer. Campbellsville countered with a run in the third inning when Daniels singled to left field, driving in Reynolds. Reynolds had previously doubled to left center in the same inning.

Freed-Hardeman added two unearned runs in the fourth inning due to a Campbellsville error and another run in the fifth, extending their lead to 5-1.  

Ultimately, Campbellsville scored one run on five hits and committed one error, while Freed-Hardeman scored five on seven hits and had two errors.  

Campbellsville will continue participating in the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday, May 1st when they take on the Lindsay Wilson Blue Raiders. That game will begin at 1 p.m. ET.

  • Campbellsville's game-one offense was powered by Reynolds, who went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a home run and a double. Daniels also contributed significantly, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run. Madison Reed added two hits and three RBIs, with a home run and a double. Reynolds also delivered a strong performance in the.circle, earning the win in game one by pitching five innings and conceding only two runs on six hits.  
  • For the second contest, Daniels led Campbellsville offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Reynolds contributed a double.
