MARION, IN - Lukas Smithson ran his way to the 3,000m steeplechase finals after a 5th place finish in his heat.

Smithson will go in as hip 12 in the finals with his preliminary time of 9:26.15. Over the course of the last two laps he moved up two positions with his last lap being his fastest of 68.35. 

Martin Batel placed 20th overall in the preliminary round with a time of 9:41.34. 

Campbellsville will return to the track tomorrow across four events. 

• This is Smithson's first national championship final in his career.
• Smithson has ran a personal best in every event he has ran in the 2024-25 cross country and track and field season this year.
