CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. —
Fiona Jolly scored twice, and
Sydney Hall made 10 saves Thursday as Campbellsville University defeated No. 6 University of the Cumberlands 4-0 to remain unbeaten in Mid-South Conference play.
- Campbellsville remained perfect in conference play. The Tigers improved to 8-1-2 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-South, while Cumberlands fell to 5-2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
- Jolly delivered the match's only brace. She scored once in each half and placed all three of her shots on goal, accounting for Campbellsville's first and final goals.
- Hall was perfect against sustained pressure. The Campbellsville goalkeeper stopped all 10 shots on frame, including eight after halftime, to complete the 90-minute shutout.
- The Tigers capitalized on their opportunities. Campbellsville scored four times on nine shots on goal, while Cumberlands was held scoreless despite generating 19 shots and eight corner kicks.
- Campbellsville built its advantage before the Patriots found their rhythm. The Tigers outshot Cumberlands 11-4 in the opening half and carried a 2-0 lead into the break.
- The Tigers weathered the second-half response. Cumberlands generated 15 shots and seven corner kicks after halftime, but Hall made eight saves as Campbellsville added two goals to extend its lead.
- Campbellsville played disciplined soccer. The Tigers committed three fouls, did not receive a card, and allowed Cumberlands only six fouls without a caution.
Campbellsville established the early attacking pressure, generating five shots during the opening 12 minutes. Cumberlands goalkeeper Morgan White denied
Oddny Helgadottir twice and
Marta Prieto once to keep the match scoreless.
White made another save against
Amelie Matheis in the 18th minute, but Jolly broke through at 18:51 to give Campbellsville a 1-0 advantage.
The Tigers doubled their lead at 29:10 when
Julia Ogren scored unassisted. Hall preserved the two-goal cushion with saves against Wakana Ose and Lisa Skjoldager as Campbellsville entered halftime ahead 2-0.
Cumberlands increased its pressure following the break. The Patriots produced four shots and three corner kicks between the 46th and 65th minutes, but Hall saved Letizia Traversone's attempt, and the Campbellsville defense blocked a shot from Ines Martin.
Hall denied Ose in the 68th minute before Campbellsville extended its lead at 70:12. Matheis scored unassisted, converting the Tigers' second shot of the half to make it 3-0.
The Patriots continued to test Campbellsville, but Hall stopped attempts from Evelyn Saldivar and Maliah Mitchell. The Tigers then put the match out of reach at 77:21 when Jolly finished a service from
Laura Munoz for her second goal.
Hall made four saves during the final 11 minutes, denying Saldivar three times and Martin once to close out the shutout. Campbellsville finished with nine shots on goal and four corner kicks while handing Cumberlands its first conference loss.
