No. 8 Lady Tigers rally late but fall to No. 20 College of the Ozarks at Bethel Classic

MCKENZIE, Tenn. — Despite a fourth-quarter charge that trimmed a 14-point deficit to four in the closing minutes, No. 8 Campbellsville University fell 84-79 to No. 20 College of the Ozarks Thursday afternoon in its opening game of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Women's Basketball Classic hosted by Bethel University.

TIGER TAKEAWAYS 26-27
  • Hallie Allen led Campbellsville with 20 points, knocking down five 3-pointers and scoring 16 of her points after halftime.
  • The Lady Tigers forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 26 points, nearly quadrupling the Bobcats' seven points off turnovers.
  • Talynne Shearer continued her strong start to the season, totaling 11 points, four rebounds, four steals, and two assists while helping spearhead Campbellsville's defensive pressure.
  • College of the Ozarks maintained its advantage with efficient shooting, connecting on 51.8% from the field and 50.0% from three-point range.
  • Logan Jones proved difficult to contain throughout the afternoon, finishing with a game-high 31 points on 11-for-19 shooting while adding nine rebounds.
  • Campbellsville's bench provided a spark, outscoring the Bobcat reserves 23-17 behind Ella House's 10 points and Bella Stiles' eight points and four rebounds.
  • The Lady Tigers never held a lead but erased much of a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit, using a 15-2 run to pull within 73-69 with 2:49 remaining.
College of the Ozarks established control early behind the hot shooting of Jones. The Bobcats opened the game on a 10-3 run and received 12 first-quarter points from Jones, building a six-point advantage. Campbellsville answered with baskets from Hallie Allen, Talynne Shearer, and Ella House, while a late Kinsley Molden three-pointer cut the deficit to 27-21 after one.

The Bobcats continued to execute offensively in the second quarter. A Lucinda Weaver three-pointer pushed the margin to double digits at 32-22 before Campbellsville climbed back behind Lainey Johnson, who scored five points during a 9-2 response. The Lady Tigers cut the lead to three on multiple occasions, but College of the Ozarks closed the half on a 7-2 run to take a 43-36 advantage into the locker room.

Campbellsville remained within striking distance throughout the third quarter. Allen buried a pair of triples, Shearer connected from long range, and the Lady Tigers forced several turnovers, but Jones repeatedly answered for the Bobcats. After Campbellsville narrowed the gap to four midway through the period, College of the Ozarks closed the quarter on a 14-7 stretch and carried a 66-54 lead into the final frame.

The Bobcats extended their largest lead of the afternoon to 14 points at 71-57 with 6:03 remaining. Campbellsville refused to fold. Allen drilled consecutive three-pointers, House converted back-to-back layups off defensive pressure, and the Lady Tigers held College of the Ozarks scoreless from the field for nearly three minutes while trimming the margin to 73-69 with 2:49 left.

However, the Bobcats converted key free throws down the stretch to protect the lead. Campbellsville continued to battle, receiving a three-point play from Johnson and five late points from Dea Bradley, but could not complete the comeback. Allen scored on an offensive rebound as time expired to provide the final 84-79 margin.

Bradley finished with 12 points, Johnson added 10, and House contributed 10 off the bench for Campbellsville. Jones paced all scorers with 31 points, while Susanna Moran added 14 points and 10 rebounds for College of the Ozarks.

The Lady Tigers will conclude play at the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Women's Basketball Classic on Friday.
