HENDERSON, Tenn. — The #5 Campbellsville University Lady Tigers wrapped up their two-game, top-5 road trip Saturday afternoon at #2 Freed-Hardeman University, falling 87-51. The Lady Lions used a fast start and a strong first-quarter to set the tone early and never look back.
- Whitney Hay led the way for Campbellsville with a team-high 14 points.
- Freshman Abby Gilbert provided a strong spark off the bench, ending with 10 points and grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
- Tyra Flowers anchored the defensive effort, finishing with a game-high four steals.
- The Lady Tigers' reserves were highly active, finishing with 22 bench points and adding 16 points in the paint.
- Campbellsville will return home to celebrate Senior Night against the University of the Cumberlands on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Campbellsville trailed early before
Whitney Hay hit a mid-range jumper to start the scoring. The Lady Lions continued to find success by getting in the middle of the zone and knocking down shots. Freed-Hardeman held a seven-point lead at the first media timeout.
Abby Gilbert came off the bench trying to provide a spark. She hit a free throw and a put-back layup for three quick points. Freed-Hardeman would close out the quarter with a 21-9 advantage. The Lady Lions shot 61.5 percent from the field in the opening frame.
Dea Bradley found an opening bucket to cut into the lead to open the second quarter.
Lainey Johnson then found the scoring column with a jumper from the left baseline. Bradley pitched in a pair of free throws after getting hacked on a drive. Freed-Hardeman continued their hot start by doubling up CU, taking a 42-21 lead at halftime. The Lady Lions shot 58.3 percent from the field in the second quarter and went 8-for-14 from three in the first half. The Lady Tigers shot 31.6 percent from the floor for the game, with Hay leading the way with six points and Johnson adding four at the break. The Tigers' defense forced nine first-half turnovers and scored five points off them.
The second half started in a hurry with
Paige Serafini hitting the team's first triple of the game. A pair of free throws and a jumper gave FHU their largest lead at 22.
Whitney Hay answered with a pair of jump shots. The Lady Tigers switched to man-to-man defense, which proved to slow down the flurry.
Kinsley Molden found the scoring column after knocking down a pair of free throws.
Dea Bradley closed out the quarter with a pair from the stripe and a tough contested layup. The Lady Lions hit seven free throws in the period to maintain a 59-36 lead heading into the fourth.
Gilbert made the first strike of the fourth with a jumper at the 6:49 mark.
Hallie Allen followed up with one of her own not 30 seconds later. The teams traded buckets until the final buzzer, ending in an 87-51 margin.
