GAME ONE: Campbellsville 12, Goshen 1
The Tigers' offense wasted no time jumping on Goshen pitching, using a blend of power and patience to build an insurmountable lead early in the contest.
After a scoreless first inning, Campbellsville struck in the second when
Kleysen Gabruck roped a two-run double to left field, bringing home
Trey Proctor and
Joaquin Hernandez.
The floodgates opened in the third. Following an RBI fielder's choice from Hernandez,
Tate Wischnack stepped into the box and launched his first home run of the day, a towering three-run blast to left field to extend the lead to 6-0.
Campbellsville utilized exceptional plate discipline to plate four more runs in the fourth.
Thomas Krueger and
Jaxson Grubbs drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks, followed by a sacrifice fly from Hernandez. Wischnack capped the frame by trading his home run trot for a sprint, lacing an RBI double to left field to make it 10-0.
Wischnack wasn't finished. In the bottom of the sixth, he crushed a two-run homer, his second of the game, to cement the 12-run advantage.
On the mound,
Ian Roemer (1-0) carved up the Goshen lineup. The right-hander earned the win by throwing five brilliant, scoreless innings, allowing just a single hit and striking out six. Relievers
Parker King and
Kaiser Quick handled the final two frames, with Quick striking out the side in the seventh while surrendering a single unearned run.
GAME TWO: Campbellsville 6, Kentucky Christian 2
The nightcap presented a much tighter contest in the early innings, requiring the Tigers to lean on their starting pitching and clutch late-inning execution.
Campbellsville struck first in the top of the opening frame. After
Jason Franzel drew a two-out walk, first baseman
Jaxson Grubbs made KCU pay, blasting a two-run home run to left field to give the Tigers an immediate 2-0 lead.
Kentucky Christian answered right back in the bottom of the first, stringing together three hits, including RBI singles from Caiden Skelton and Caleb Atafua, to knot the game at 2-2.
The tie was short-lived. In the top of the second, catcher
Luke O'Brien led off with a double to center field and later scored on an RBI ground-ball single from Hernandez to put the Tigers back in front, 3-2.
From that point on, it was the
Tristin Crusenberry show. The Campbellsville starter settled into a dominant groove, pitching to contact and letting his defense work behind him. Crusenberry scattered eight hits across his seven innings of work, shutting out KCU for the final six frames and striking out five to secure the complete-game win.
Clinging to a one-run lead in the top of the seventh, the Campbellsville offense provided the dagger. Wischnack capped off his sensational day with a solo home run to center field. Two batters later,
Brady Henke ripped an RBI double to left, scoring Hernandez.
Antony Gilbert immediately followed suit, roping an RBI double of his own to center field to bring Henke around, swelling the lead to 6-2 and putting the game out of reach.
