LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Campbellsville University Track & Field teams made a statement Tuesday at the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships, claiming individual titles and storming to a third-place finish on the men's side and a fourth-place showing for the women.
- Schavon Carr captured the Mid-South Conference title in the men's 60-meter hurdles, blazing to a winning time of 8.05 seconds.
- David Young secured a conference championship in the men's triple jump, soaring to a top mark of 14.23 meters (46' 8.25") to claim 10 crucial team points.
- Matthias Brice set a new Campbellsville indoor school record in the men's 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 49.11 seconds.
- Kayla Barr powered the Lady Tigers' throwing unit, securing silver medals in both the shot put (11.64m) and the weight throw (13.73m).
- Makiyah Allen showcased her versatility by scoring in three events, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds.
- The Tigers delivered strong overall team performances, with the men placing third (89 points) and the women taking fourth (79 points) in the conference standings.
- The Tigers will now shift their focus to the national stage, preparing for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Gainesville, Florida, scheduled for March 5-7.
Following a high-energy day packed with record-breaking performances and clutch podium finishes at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, Head Coach
Ranard Adkison praised the entire roster's effort.
"Across every event group, we saw athletes rise to the occasion," Adkison said. "That kind of team-wide contribution is what makes championships special."
Schavon Carr led the charge for the Tigers, capturing the Mid-South Conference title in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a blazing time of 8.05 seconds after also leading the field in the preliminaries. In the field,
David Young added a conference championship in the men's triple jump, soaring to a winning mark of 14.23 meters (46' 8.25") to secure 10 crucial team points.
"On the men's side,
Schavon Carr rose to the occasion and won the 60m hurdles," Adkison said. "He handled the pressure like a champion and executed when it mattered most.
David Young did the same in the triple jump, competing with poise and securing big points with a winning performance."
On the track,
Matthias Brice etched his name into the history books, setting a new school record in the men's 400 meters with a time of 49.11 seconds to earn a fifth-place finish. The sprint group also contributed heavily, as
Isaiah Johnson (7.03) and
Jason Baskerville (7.04) both scored in the men's 60-meter dash finals, adding depth to the overall team performance.
The Tigers continued to stack podium finishes in the distance events.
Martin Batel placed second in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:38.17 , while Nathan Sury earned third in the 1,000 meters in 2:31.56. The men's 4x800-meter relay team of Austin Barnes,
Samuel Larson, Sury, and
Ethan Johnson delivered a runner-up finish (8:10.77), earning valuable team points in a tightly contested race. In the distance medley relay, the men's squad of Barnes, Corbin Hale, Mathew Mattingly, and
Dustin Ralph placed fourth (11:19.20).
In the field, Marcus Bell delivered a runner-up performance in the shot put with a throw of 13.10 meters , and freshman
Neo Khanye placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.73 meters.
"Our distance crew also showed up in a big way," Adkison added. "Both men's and women's 4x800-meter relay teams competed with grit and determination. In addition to the relays, we had individuals step up in the distance events, including
Martin Batel finishing as runner-up in the 3000m. His effort, race strategy, and toughness over the final laps were outstanding and added valuable points for the men's side."
Kayla Barr powered the Lady Tigers in the throwing ring with a pair of second-place finishes, tossing the shot put 11.64 meters (38' 2.25") and recording a mark of 13.73 meters (45' 0.50") in the weight throw.
Dasia Garland also secured a silver-medal finish in the triple jump with a bound of 11.14 meters.
"Kayla delivered in both throwing events, giving us critical points and momentum," Adkison stated. "It's not easy to double in the throws and stay consistent, but she competed with focus and confidence and did exactly what the team needed."
On the track,
Makiyah Allen was a multi-event workhorse. She placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds and added points in both the 60-meter dash (7.89) and the 200-meter dash (25.94) to help solidify the women's team finish.
"
Makiyah Allen had an outstanding meet, scoring major points in the 60m hurdles, 60m dash, and the 200m," Adkison said. "To compete at a high level across three events like that takes versatility, preparation, and mental toughness. She stepped up every time she got on the track and made a huge impact on the women's side."
In the distance events,
Emma Madding delivered a third-place finish in the women's mile (5:32.65) , and
Brianna Collins added a podium finish in the women's 1,000 meters (3:18.35) to strengthen the Lady Tigers' fourth-place team standing.
The women's 4x800-meter relay team of
Maggie Jewell, Rebecca Stringer, Karly Spalding, and
Meredith Wilson secured second place (10:43.98) to boost the Lady Tigers' point total. In the distance medley relay, the women's team of Amelia Larson, Jewell, Wilson, and Stringer earned a third-place finish (14:21.47).
