Lady Tigers set sights on MSC Tournament Title, open against Georgetown

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The postseason has officially arrived. The Campbellsville University Lady Tigers (22-6, 7-5 MSC) enter the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament as the #4 seed, preparing for a highly anticipated rubber match against the #5-seeded Georgetown College Tigers on Friday, February 27, at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Campbellsville's journey to the postseason was paved by one of the most prolific and efficient offenses in the NAIA. The Lady Tigers averaged an impressive 80.6 points per game throughout the regular season while shooting 45.1% from the floor. The defense proved equally formidable, suffocating opponents to just 57.3 points per contest and racking up 14.6 steals per game.

Whitney Hay anchored the team's high-octane attack, amassing 510 points (and joining the prestigious 1,000 Point Club in the process) on a highly efficient 52.7% shooting clip. Sophomore Dea Bradley provided a lethal secondary scoring punch with 388 points and 83 made free throws, while freshman Lainey Johnson stretched defenses with 34 three-pointers off the bench. On the other end of the floor, senior Tyra Flowers was a highly disruptive defensive force, leading the squad with 197 rebounds and 83 steals over the course of the season.

Friday's quarterfinal clash will break a 1-1 regular-season tie between the Lady Tigers and Georgetown, with both teams defending their home courts during the regular season.

The conference foes first met on February 5 at the Powell Athletic Center, where Campbellsville utilized a dominant defensive performance to secure a 78-67 victory. Campbellsville started the contest with an immediate 7-0 run, setting the tone early. The Lady Tigers built a 19-12 lead by the end of the first quarter and outscored Georgetown 20-19 in the second to take a 39-31 advantage into the locker room. Georgetown mounted a third-quarter surge to close the gap, but Campbellsville responded with a 25-point fourth-quarter eruption to put the game away, limiting Georgetown's Daysha Reid and Anna Long to single-digit shooting numbers.

The rematch took place just last Saturday, February 21, resulting in a heartbreaking 68-67 loss for Campbellsville in the regular-season finale. Campbellsville surged ahead early, taking a 20-13 lead after the first ten minutes on the back of aggressive transition play. However, Georgetown's offense caught fire in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 25-15 to take a narrow 38-35 lead at the half. Campbellsville reclaimed the momentum in the third, sparked by Hay (23 points) and Bradley (20 points), outscoring the hosts 21-14 to carry a 56-52 advantage into the final frame. The fourth quarter was a physical, back-and-forth defensive battle. Hallie Allen gave the Lady Tigers a 67-66 lead at the charity stripe with just 34 seconds remaining, but Georgetown's Kayra Freeman converted a contested layup with only two seconds left on the clock to seal the 68-67 defeat.

The MSC remains the premier women's basketball league in the country, and the tournament bracket promises a grueling path to the championship. Should Campbellsville advance past Georgetown in Friday's quarterfinal, a massive semifinal test awaits on Sunday against the tournament's top overall seed, the Bethel University Wildcats.

However, the Lady Tigers are built for March. With a veteran core, an elite scoring attack, and a suffocating defense capable of turning turnovers into instant offense, Campbellsville possesses all the necessary tools to navigate the gauntlet, capture the MSC crown, and secure the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
