CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The (RV) Lady Tigers hosted the #13 University of the Cumberlands Patriots for a Saturday doubleheader, dropping game one 9-0 before falling 7-2 in game two to close the weekend series.
- First baseman Jessie Daniels led the Campbellsville offense, driving in two runs in the first inning of the nightcap to briefly tie the contest.
- Senior shortstop Korey Harris consistently set the table at the top of the lineup, recording seven combined at-bats and a hit in game two.
- The #13 Patriots showcased their power throughout the day, hitting four total home runs, including a pivotal seventh-inning grand slam in game two.
- The Lady Tigers will be back in action, hosting the Georgetown College Tigers on Friday, March 20, beginning at 3 p.m. ET.
GAME ONE: Cumberlands 9, Campbellsville 0
The Patriots opened the game in explosive fashion when leadoff batter Grace Ross launched a solo home run to left-center. Two Lady Tigers reached base via walks during their share of the inning but were unable to score.
Cumberlands increased their advantage in the top of the second inning, capitalizing on two hits and a crucial Campbellsville error to collect four runs. Much like the first, two Campbellsville batters earned free bases in the bottom half of the frame, but neither was able to cross home plate.
With an RBI single to left field and a sprint to home from Kristen Smith, the Patriots widened their upper hand to 7-0 in the third inning.
Lydia Jones and
Karleigh Walker each singled in the home half, but the Lady Tigers were put away before they managed to put Campbellsville on the board.
The Patriots closed the game early after a two-run homer to left field by Jae Jae Phillips in the top of the fifth inning, enacting the run rule to secure the 9-0 victory.
GAME TWO: Cumberlands 7, Campbellsville 2
Cumberlands came into the second game strong, scoring two runs in the first inning on three hits and a wild pitch. The Lady Tigers struck back immediately in the bottom half of the frame.
Jessie Daniels ripped a clutch two-run single to right-center, bringing
Rylee Warner and
Korey Harris home to tie the scoreboard at two by the end of the first.
The Patriots reclaimed their upper hand in the third inning when Grace Ross launched her second home run of the day, a solo shot to right-center.
Lydia Jones reached base on a walk in the fifth inning, but the Lady Tigers were put away before she got a chance to score.
As the final inning approached, Cumberlands loaded the bases before Emily Delgado crushed a grand slam to left-center, building an insurmountable five-run lead.
Ashlan Estep stepped to the plate with a leadoff single to third base in the bottom of the seventh, but despite Campbellsville's attempts to recuperate, the game ended before they were able to catch up.
