The opening inning of the game displayed quality pitching and defense from both sides, as the starting pitchers settled in with quick 1-2-3 frames. Both teams found a spark of offensive energy in the second inning, collecting their first hits of the game. Campbellsville's initial hit came from sophomore
Karleigh Walker, who singled to left field. At the start of the third inning,
Ashlan Estep battled at the plate as a pinch hitter to earn a free trip to first base via a walk, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Madison Reed. However, she was stranded, and the Lady Tigers ended the first three innings locked in a scoreless duel, relying on a disciplined defense and stellar pitching from
Emma Markham.
With the start of the fourth inning, the Lady Tigers found a burst of power.
Rylee Warner launched a solo home run to center field, putting Campbellsville on the board and giving them a 1-0 lead. The next two innings were a true defensive battle, with neither team recording any runs and Markham continuing to shut down the Georgetown lineup.
Heading into the final inning, the Lady Tigers failed to add to their lead, going down in order in the top of the seventh. Georgetown refused to back down to the challenge of trailing entering the bottom half. The hosts opened the inning with a leadoff double to left-center by Ainsley Herron, immediately followed by an RBI single to center field from Kady Dennis to tie the game at 1-1. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt moved the winning run to third base, Addi Watson reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Dennis to score the walk-off run, finalizing the 2-1 victory for Georgetown.
Despite the defensive efforts and an outstanding 6.1-inning, seven-strikeout performance from Markham, the last-ditch surge from Georgetown proved to be just enough to complete the comeback.
