CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – On Sunday, the Campbellsville University Tigers fell 7-4 to Talladega College in a hard-fought non-conference matchup. The Tigers rallied late in the game but could not overcome an early Talladega offensive surge.
- Jaxson Grubbs went 1-for-2 with a double, scored one run, and reached base twice, sparking Campbellsville's offense in the sixth inning.
- Brock Brubaker went 1-for-2 with an RBI single in the sixth inning and advanced to second on a throwing error.
- Tate Wischnack was hit by a pitch, advanced on a wild pitch and passed ball, and scored one run during the Tigers' seventh-inning rally.
- Anthony Esposito went 1-for-1 with an RBI single, advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored one run in the seventh inning.
- Antony Gilbert reached base twice (hit by pitch and on a throwing error), scored one run, and drove in one RBI during Campbellsville's late rally.
- Brady Henke went 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, reached base twice, and helped set the table for the Tigers' late-inning scoring surge.
- Joaquin Hernandez walked in the seventh inning, reached base once, and scored one run as part of the four-run rally.
- The Tigers will regroup to bounce back tomorrow, Monday, March 9, at HIG Baseball Field, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
Both teams started the game quietly.
Brady Henke singled to shortstop and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but the Tigers were unable to score, as
Antony Gilbert grounded out and
Jaxson Grubbs flew out. Henke was caught stealing to end the inning.
Talladega's offense broke through in the third inning. Adrian Epps reached on an error and advanced to second on a bunt by Jonathan Williams. Sebastian Pizarro singled to bring home Epps , and a second error allowed Victor Rivera to reach base, scoring Pizarro. Armando Jackson struck out to end the inning.
Campbellsville had opportunities in the bottom of the third but could not capitalize.
Joaquin Hernandez lined out,
Kleysen Gabruck walked, and Henke was hit by a pitch. Gilbert lined out, and Grubbs reached on a fielder's choice, leaving runners stranded.
Talladega extended its lead in the fourth inning. Diego Duque doubled to center, Manuel Martinez singled (RBI), Adrian Epps singled (RBI), and Jonathan Williams tripled to bring home another run. Sebastian Pizarro added an RBI groundout to plate Williams, pushing the Tornadoes ahead 6-0.
Campbellsville's offense sparked in the sixth inning. Grubbs doubled down the left-field line, and
Brock Brubaker singled, scoring Grubbs for the Tigers' first run.
The Tigers kept fighting in the seventh inning.
Tate Wischnack was hit by a pitch, advanced on a wild pitch, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on another wild pitch. Hernandez walked, and
Anthony Esposito drove in a run on a bunt single. A throwing error allowed Gilbert to score on the next play. Campbellsville's rally brought four runs across in the inning, cutting the deficit to 7-4.
Talladega held the Tigers scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, despite Campbellsville putting runners on base.
