BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The #5-seed Campbellsville Tigers battled in a tightly contested pitcher's duel but came up just short, falling 1-0 to the #3-seed Cumberland Phoenix in the MSC Tournament play. Despite staying within striking distance all game, the Tigers couldn't capitalize on key opportunities, leaving multiple runners on base throughout the afternoon.

Cumberland wasted no time putting pressure on at the top of the first, picking up a leadoff single, but
Joe McBride settled in early on the mound for Campbellsville, working through the inning with help from his defense to keep the game scoreless.
The Tigers answered in the bottom half as
Brady Henke worked a walk and
Antony Gilbert followed with a base hit to move a runner into scoring position. However, a strikeout and an inning-ending double play erased the threat, leaving the game tied after one.
The Phoenix broke through in the second inning, using a leadoff double to spark the offense. After advancing the runner to third, a sacrifice fly brought in the first run of the game, giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
Campbellsville looked to respond in the bottom of the second as
Joaquin Hernandez singled and later stole second, but a strikeout ended the inning with the tying run stranded.
Both teams traded quiet innings through the third and fourth, with each side picking up a hit but unable to string anything together. McBride found his rhythm during this stretch, keeping Cumberland off the board and giving the Tigers a chance to stay within one.
In the fifth inning, the Tigers threatened again.

Antony Gilbert drew a walk to load the bases, but Campbellsville couldn't capitalize as the final out left all three runners stranded.
Cumberland continued to apply pressure in the sixth with a two-out double, but McBride worked out of trouble once again, keeping it a one-run game.
Campbellsville had another opportunity in the eighth inning when
Antony Gilbert and
Jaxson Grubbs delivered back-to-back singles. With two runners on, the Tigers looked poised to tie the game, but a lineout and a fielder's choice ended the rally.
Cumberland went quietly in the ninth, setting the stage for a final chance for Campbellsville.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Tigers got a spark when
Luke O'Brien reached on an error, putting the tying run aboard with one out. However, a flyout and a pop-up ended the game, as Cumberland held on to secure the 1-0 victory, despite a strong outing from
Joe McBride on the mound.
