CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers demonstrated offensive dominance at home against Pikeville on Wednesday, with
Brady Henke's grand slam and
Jason Franzel's two-run homer guiding Campbellsville to a 6-2 victory.
- Henke powered the offense with a grand slam, driving in four runs to put Campbellsville in control.
- Franzel contributed a two-run homer, adding to the Tigers' scoring.
- Antony Gilbert went 2-for-4, helping keep the offense consistent.
- Campbellsville's defense came up big, turning key plays to shut down Pikeville's rally attempts.
- The Tigers will continue conference play this week, starting a home series on Friday, April 10th at 4 p.m. ET against Cumberland University at HIG Baseball Field.
Pikeville got on the board first in the opening frame, loading the bases with a single and a walk before a follow-up single drove in a run, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
Campbellsville answered immediately in the bottom half.
Brady Henke flied out, but
Antony Gilbert singled to right.
Jaxson Grubbs flied out to center, and then
Jason Franzel crushed a two-run homer to left field, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Pikeville tied the game 2-2 in the top of the third with a walk, a single, and a wild pitch.
The Tigers took over in the fourth inning.
Tate Wischnack worked a walk, followed by
Kleysen Gabruck, putting two runners on and setting the stage.
Joaquin Hernandez flied out to left, but the pressure stayed on.
Nick Hagen drew a walk, bringing in a pinch runner,
Trey Proctor, and loading the bases. That's when
Brady Henke stepped up and crushed a grand slam to left field, sending everyone home and putting Campbellsville in full control with a 6-2 lead.
Campbellsville continued to threaten in the fifth and sixth innings, putting runners on base, but Pikeville's pitchers managed to keep them from scoring.
Late in the game, Pikeville tried to mount a comeback, putting runners on base with walks and singles and even reaching scoring position. However, a key double play erased runners and kept Pikeville off the board.
The Bears threatened again with runners on base, but the Tigers responded with strikeouts and a clutch double play to end the game, securing a 6-2 win and controlling the game from start to finish.
