Tigers fall 2-1 at Union Commonwealth in season opener

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville opened its 2026 campaign Saturday at Williamson Stadium with a 2-1 loss to receiving-votes Union Commonwealth, as Malte Ekman answered a pair of second-half goals during a frantic three-goal stretch, but the Tigers could not produce an equalizer.

The hosts gained control territorially after the break. Schou saved efforts from Ron-Jay Watson and Donte Campbell, while the Tigers defended four Union Commonwealth corner kicks between the 56th and 61st minutes.

Union Commonwealth broke through at 63:42 when Diego Yanes Garcia scored from Noah Bender's assist. Tom McDonald doubled the margin 91 seconds later, finishing a chance created by Bailey-Edwards.

Campbellsville responded immediately. Just 48 seconds after the second goal, Birgisson supplied Ekman, who converted at 66:01 to pull the Tigers within 2-1.

The Tigers continued their pursuit of an equalizer. Andreas Slethaug sent an attempt high in the 71st minute, and Campbellsville earned a corner in the 85th. Tobias Etim produced the final opportunity with a header on target at 89:28, but Hardcastle made the save to preserve Union Commonwealth's one-goal advantage.

Campbellsville finished with nine shots, seven on goal, and three corner kicks. Union Commonwealth recorded 15 shots, seven on goal, and nine corners. The result moved the Tigers to 0-1 and Union Commonwealth to 1-0.
