GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Campbellsville University combined 43 kills with a .262 hitting percentage and held Georgetown College below .100 to sweep the host Tigers 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 Friday in both teams' Mid-South Conference opener at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
- Campbellsville improved to 14-5 overall and 1-0 in Mid-South Conference play, earning its third sweep in four matches. Georgetown fell to 11-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
- Campbellsville finished with a 43-29 advantage in kills and outhit Georgetown .262-.095. After hitting .114 in the opening set, Campbellsville found its offensive rhythm with percentages of .344 and .333 over the final two frames.
- Libby Erwin led all players with 13 kills, committing three errors on 27 swings for a .370 hitting percentage. She recorded six kills in the opening set and added four in the third.
- Sophie Hill supplied Campbellsville's most efficient attack, recording eight kills without an error on 12 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. She also contributed two block assists and scored the final point in both the second and third sets.
- Kati Vest directed the offense with 32 assists, averaging 10.67 per set, while adding a team-high 13 digs, three kills, two block assists, and an ace. Campbellsville recorded 41 assists on its 43 kills.
- The Tigers placed three players in double figures defensively, with Elif Akcivi collecting a match-high 14 digs, Vest adding 13, and Marisa Gallardo finishing with 11. Campbellsville totaled 57 digs compared with Georgetown's 39.
- Campbellsville applied pressure from the service line with seven aces, led by three from Akcivi and two from Celestina Retumban. That pressure contributed to seven Georgetown reception errors and helped the Tigers build separation during the final two sets.
Campbellsville scored the first two points of the opening set before Georgetown worked ahead 5-4. The teams remained separated by no more than two points until the score reached 9-9, when kills from Hill and Erwin, a Retumban ace, and a Georgetown attack error moved Campbellsville in front 12-9.
The Tigers extended their advantage to 19-12 as Georgetown committed four attack errors during the stretch, including one forced by an Akcivi-
Brooke Hager block. Georgetown answered with five straight points to pull within 19-17, but Erwin stopped the run with consecutive kills.
Erwin later delivered three kills over Campbellsville's final five points. Her sixth termination of the set completed the 25-20 victory after the Tigers held Georgetown to eight kills and a -.067 hitting percentage in the frame.
Campbellsville opened the second set with another Retumban ace and used Akcivi's service rotation to establish a 9-3 lead. Akcivi recorded an ace and a kill during the sequence, while Vest added a kill as Georgetown committed a setting error.
The visitors continued to build their advantage behind a balanced attack. Consecutive Hill kills made it 13-7 before Hager,
Kaytlin Miller, and Akcivi supplied three straight terminations during a five-point run that pushed Campbellsville's lead to 19-8.
Georgetown reduced the margin to 24-20, but Hill ended the set with her fourth kill of the frame. Campbellsville hit .344 with 15 kills and four errors on 32 attempts in the 25-20 decision.
Georgetown built an 8-4 advantage early in the third set before Campbellsville responded behind Vest's serve. A Vest-Hill block began the comeback, followed by a Vest ace and consecutive kills from Hill, Miller, and Erwin that put Campbellsville ahead 9-8.
The teams exchanged sideouts before Campbellsville created separation midway through the set. Miller and Akcivi recorded kills, and an
Olivia Hellman ace stretched the advantage to 15-12.
Akcivi then served consecutive aces during a four-point run that gave Campbellsville a 19-13 lead. Georgetown came within four at 19-15, but Erwin answered with a kill before a Georgetown attack error restored a six-point margin.
Campbellsville reached match point on Hill's eighth kill, and Miller followed with her seventh to finish the 25-19 set. The Tigers recorded 17 kills and hit .333 in the final frame while limiting Georgetown to 11 kills.
Erwin paced Campbellsville with 13 kills, Hill added eight errorless kills, and Miller supplied seven kills on a .312 hitting percentage off the bench. Vest finished with 32 assists and 13 digs, while Akcivi recorded 14 digs, six kills, and three aces as Campbellsville opened conference play with a road sweep.
