THOMASVILLE, Ga. — No. 10 Campbellsville University established program single-game records with 80 points, 11 touchdowns, and 10.8 yards per play Saturday, using 671 yards of offense and a second-half shutout to rout Thomas University 80-10 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
- Campbellsville reset three team records. The Fighting Tigers' 80 points surpassed the previous program record of 70 against Reinhardt University on Nov. 7, 2015, while their 11 touchdowns broke the former mark of 10. Campbellsville's 10.8 yards per play also eclipsed the previous record of 9.4 against Clinch Valley in 1998.
- The offense produced one of the most efficient performances in program history. Campbellsville gained 671 yards, the fifth-highest single-game total in the record book, despite running only 62 plays. The Tigers rushed for 321 yards at 9.2 yards per carry, the second-highest team average in program history, and threw for 350 yards at 13 yards per attempt.
- Three quarterbacks combined for six touchdown passes. Justyce Law completed 15 of 20 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns, Jett Engle went 4-for-5 for 123 yards and two scores, and receiver Troy Oliver completed a 37-yard touchdown pass. The six touchdown passes matched the second-highest single-game total in Campbellsville history.
- Dionte Jones supplied a historic response. Dionte Jones answered Thomas' opening field goal with a 94-yard touchdown run on Campbellsville's next offensive snap. The run was the second-longest in program history, trailing only Tim Mays' 97-yard rush at Georgetown College in 1997. Jones finished with 111 yards on four carries.
- Solomon Stonebraker repeatedly stretched the secondary. Solomon Stonebraker caught four passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 38.8 yards per reception. That average ranks second in program history among players with at least three catches, and his touchdown receptions covered 50 and 37 yards.
- The defense controlled the final three quarters. Campbellsville held Thomas to 187 total yards, 14 first downs, and 2.8 yards per play. The Nighthawks managed 56 rushing yards, converted 3 of 18 third downs, and did not score after their touchdown with 1:21 remaining in the first half.
- Colin Fratus established two kicking records. Colin Fratus made a program-record 11 extra points on a program-record 11 attempts and added a 44-yard field goal. His 14 kicking points tied for fourth most in a game in Campbellsville history.
Thomas received the opening kickoff, but
Tyler Ballard stalled the Nighthawks' first possession with a 12-yard sack. Thomas later put together a 12-play, 44-yard drive before Garrett Stevenson converted a 42-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 3:33 remaining in the first quarter.
The advantage lasted 23 seconds. On Campbellsville's first snap following the field goal, Jones broke through the defense for a 94-yard touchdown, giving the Tigers a 7-3 lead.
Campbellsville's defense forced a three-and-out on the ensuing series. A Thomas penalty following the punt placed the ball at the Nighthawks' 37, and Oliver connected with
Caleb Austin for a touchdown on the first play of the possession, extending the lead to 14-3 with 1:59 left in the opening quarter.
The Tigers opened the second quarter with a fourth-down stop at midfield when Ballard stuffed Roshaun Dudley for no gain. Campbellsville converted the short field into points four plays later as Law found
Easton Barlow for a 32-yard touchdown.
Following another Thomas punt, Campbellsville advanced 71 yards in six plays.
Jeremy Smith carried three times for 30 yards during the drive, and Law completed a 29-yard pass to
Jaysean Pritchard before scoring on a 4-yard keeper to put the Tigers ahead 28-3 with 7:48 remaining in the half.
Thomas answered with its lone touchdown drive, moving 62 yards in 13 plays. Connor Langford completed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Wilson, cutting Campbellsville's advantage to 28-10 with 1:21 remaining.
The Tigers needed only 72 seconds to respond. Oliver rushed for 32 yards, Law completed consecutive 12-yard passes to
Ashton Auker, and
Jack Busey caught a 1-yard touchdown pass with two seconds left. Campbellsville entered halftime with a 35-10 lead.
Campbellsville continued its surge on the opening possession of the second half.
Jerrod Johnson gained 27 yards on the first play, and a Thomas personal foul moved the Tigers into the red zone. Law completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Pritchard five plays into the drive, increasing the margin to 42-10.
Fratus added a 44-yard field goal on Campbellsville's next possession. The defense then forced consecutive three-and-outs, with Thomas totaling minus-8 yards on the first series and no yards on the second.
Law produced his fifth touchdown of the game late in the third quarter. He completed a 32-yard pass to Stonebraker during an eight-play, 62-yard drive, then scored on a 5-yard run on fourth-and-goal to make it 52-10.
After
Amarein Atkinson recorded a sack to help force another punt, Engle connected with Stonebraker for a 50-yard touchdown on the first play of Campbellsville's next possession. The score gave the Tigers a 59-10 lead with 27 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Zeke Carwile intercepted Gray Jennings early in the fourth quarter, returning possession to Campbellsville at the Thomas 45. Campbellsville kept the ball on the ground for the entire five-play scoring drive, with Pritchard gaining 17 yards before a 3-yard team rush pushed the lead to 66-10.
The Tigers reached their previous scoring record when Engle found Stonebraker for a 37-yard touchdown with 5:58 remaining. Fratus' extra point matched the former program mark of 70 points.
Campbellsville completed the record-setting performance on its final possession. Stonebraker added a 9-yard rush and a 36-yard reception as the Tigers drove 65 yards in five plays. Engle scored on a 3-yard keeper with 1:04 left, and Fratus' 11th extra point produced the final margin and Campbellsville's program-record 80th point.
The Fighting Tigers improved to 4-0 after scoring on 12 possessions and holding Thomas to 53 total yards in the second half. Campbellsville enters an open week before beginning Mid-South Conference play at Lindsey Wilson University at 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday, Oct. 3, in Columbia, Kentucky.
