Jaén Serra sweeps four events, breaks three records at Fall Frenzy

| By:
COLUMBIA, Ky. — Freshman Naira Jaén Serra won each of her four individual events and broke three school records Friday to lead the Campbellsville University women to third place, while the Tiger men finished second at the 14th Annual Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy Invitational hosted by Lindsey Wilson University.

TIGER TAKEAWAYS 26-27
  • Jaén Serra completed a perfect individual program. She was the only woman in the 50-swimmer field to win four individual events, the maximum permitted, sweeping the 200-yard freestyle, 500 freestyle, 1,650 freestyle, and 400 individual medley. Her four victories generated 80 points and made her the meet's top women's scorer.
  • Campbellsville's distance record book underwent a substantial revision. Jaén Serra lowered the program records in the 500 freestyle by two seconds, the 1,000 freestyle split by 22 seconds, and the 1,650 freestyle by 20 seconds. She finished the 500 in 5:21.16 and the mile in 18:20.13, splitting 11:00.03 at 1,000 yards.
  • The Tiger women remained within striking distance of second place throughout the team race. Campbellsville accumulated 856 points to finish eight behind host Lindsey Wilson and 118 behind champion Indiana Wesleyan. The Tigers finished 627 points ahead of fourth-place UT Southern.
  • Marlien Crewe-Brown gave Campbellsville a second multi-event winner. The senior swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:09.41 and the 200 in 2:32.41. She scored 66 points, the third-highest individual total in the women's meet.
  • Jaén Serra's impact extended across the relay program. She anchored each of Campbellsville's five A relays, helping the Tigers record three third-place finishes and two fourth-place finishes.
  • Andreu Jaen Serra led a balanced men's distance effort. The junior placed second in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 400 individual medley before adding a third-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle. His 67 points ranked third among all men at the meet.
  • Campbellsville's men secured the runner-up position in a competitive chase behind Lindsey Wilson. The Tigers finished with 634.5 points, placing 32.5 points ahead of UT Southern and 81.5 ahead of Indiana Wesleyan. Campbellsville recorded 10 personal-best and 18 season-best performances among its 64 entries.
Campbellsville began the women's individual program with an immediate victory from Jaén Serra in the 500 freestyle. The freshman touched in 5:21.16, seven seconds ahead of Lindsey Wilson's Nathalie Medina, to collect the first of her four wins and establish a new program record. Victória Lanza provided additional scoring in the event with a fifth-place time of 5:43.20.

Jaén Serra continued her sweep in the 400 individual medley, winning in 4:55.22. She then dropped 3.21 seconds in the 200 freestyle and reached the wall first in 2:03.20. Lanza followed in fourth at 2:07.47, giving Campbellsville two of the event's top four finishers.

Crewe-Brown supplied the Tigers' other two individual victories. She won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.41 after improving her seed time by 3.14 seconds, then completed the breaststroke sweep with a 2:32.41 showing in the 200. She also placed eighth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.54.

Jaén Serra closed her individual schedule in the 1,650 freestyle, delivering a wire-to-wire distance performance in 18:20.13. Her 1,000-yard split of 11:00.03 and final mile time each established Campbellsville records, giving her three program standards during her first collegiate meet.

In addition to their six individual victories, the Tigers consistently placed their top relay entries near the front of the field. Jaén Serra anchored all five Campbellsville A relays, which finished third, fourth, fourth, third, and third, respectively.

Natasha Maracci added four third-place results and scored 56 points, the third-highest total on Campbellsville's roster. Lanza contributed 47 points and three third-place relay performances, while freshman Lys Banza added 45 points. The collective scoring helped Campbellsville finish with 856 points, narrowly behind Lindsey Wilson's 864. Indiana Wesleyan won the women's meet with 974.

For the men, Jaen Serra opened his individual schedule with a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle, touching in 4:55.05. Oswaldo Pallaroso followed in third at 5:02.50, giving Campbellsville two podium finishers in the event.
