GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Campbellsville University scored three times in a span of two minutes and added five more goals to defeat Georgetown College 8-0 on Tuesday at Toyota Stadium in the Tigers' Mid-South Conference opener.
- Campbellsville seized control with a rapid first-half surge. Oddny Helgadottir, Marta Prieto, and Julia Ogren scored between the 22nd and 24th minutes, turning a scoreless match into a 3-0 advantage in exactly two minutes.
- Prieto and Ogren recorded braces. Prieto finished with two goals and an assist on six shots, including five on frame, while Ogren converted both of her shots on goal.
- The Tigers displayed scoring depth. Campbellsville received goals from six players, with Helgadottir, Grace Smith, Amelie Matheis, and Mariana Olvera Zañudo complementing the two multi-goal performances.
- Campbellsville consistently tested the Georgetown goal. The Tigers placed 14 of their 22 shots on target and forced six saves while limiting Georgetown to six total attempts.
- Helgadottir and Prieto combined to unlock the match. Prieto assisted Helgadottir's opener before Helgadottir returned the favor 65 seconds later, giving each a goal and an assist during the decisive stretch.
- The Tigers produced at both ends of the lineup. Laura Munoz and Jorja Smith supplied assists, while Olvera Zañudo completed the scoring with her first goal of the match in the final minute.
- Campbellsville posted its fourth shutout. Sydney Hall and Verena Schneider each played 45 minutes and made two saves as the Tigers held Georgetown scoreless.
Campbellsville created the first sustained pressure, earning corner kicks in the 12th and 18th minutes. Georgetown generated the first shot on goal, but Hall denied Morgan Imhoff in the 13th minute.
The Tigers broke through at 21:33 when Prieto connected with Helgadottir for the opening goal. Helgadottir then assisted Prieto at 22:38 before Ogren scored unassisted 55 seconds later, giving Campbellsville a 3-0 lead.
Prieto added her second goal at 28:50, extending the advantage to four. Smith completed the first-half scoring at 44:03 off an assist from
Jorja Smith, sending Campbellsville into the break ahead 5-0 after a 10-shot opening period.
Campbellsville continued its attack after halftime. Munoz assisted Ogren's second goal at 50:53, and Georgetown goalkeeper Jolie Alexander made four saves over the opening 11 minutes of the period to prevent further separation.
Alexander saved Munoz's penalty kick in the 61st minute, but Matheis converted the ensuing opportunity to push the lead to 7-0.
Schneider preserved the shutout with three second-half saves against Faith Burnside. She stopped Burnside in the 62nd, 77th, and 82nd minutes before Olvera Zañudo scored unassisted at 89:26 to complete the 8-0 victory.
Campbellsville finished with advantages of 22-6 in shots, 14-4 in shots on goal, and 7-2 in corner kicks.
