MIDWAY, Ky. — Campbellsville University used 16 service aces and a .355 hitting percentage to sweep Midway University 25-18, 25-9, 25-18 Tuesday at Marshall Gymnasium, improving to 12-4 overall.
- Celestina Retumban recorded 11 service aces, accounting for nearly 69% of Campbellsville's 16 aces. Her serving produced seven points during the closing run of the second set, including five straight aces to finish the 25-9 victory.
- The Tigers hit.355 with 36 kills and nine errors on 76 attacks, surpassing .400 in each of the final two sets. Campbellsville hit .615 in the second set and .414 in the third.
- Campbellsville limited Midway to 22 kills and a .101 hitting percentage. The Eagles committed 15 attack errors and hit minus-.062 during the second set.
- Kati Vest directed the offense with 27 assists, setting Campbellsville to 12 kills per set. She also converted all three of her attacks, served two aces and contributed two block assists.
- Libby Erwin led Campbellsville with eight kills on 15 attacks, hitting .333. Elif Akcivi added seven kills, while Brooke Hager recorded six errorless kills on 11 swings for a match-best .545 hitting percentage.
- The Tigers used their depth in the final set, receiving five kills from reserves Kaytlin Miller and Larkin Taylor. Miller hit .500, while Taylor finished at .400.
- Campbellsville controlled the match despite recording fewer digs than Midway, 23-25, as its service pressure produced 16 reception errors and kept the Eagles out of system.
Campbellsville and Midway exchanged short runs early in the opening set before the Tigers took control from the service line. With the score tied at 9, Retumban served four consecutive aces during a five-point run that gave Campbellsville a 13-9 advantage.
Midway pulled within 14-12, but Campbellsville responded with four straight points. Akcivi and Hager supplied kills before combining on a block that extended the lead to 18-12. Erwin later recorded three kills during the closing stretch, and
Olivia Hellman ended the frame with an ace for a 25-18 victory.
The Tigers established immediate control in the second set, scoring the first five points behind Retumban's serve. Campbellsville extended its lead to 11-3 before consecutive Vest aces and two Midway attack errors pushed the margin to 18-7.
After Erwin's kill made it 19-9, Retumban returned to the service line and closed the set with a six-point run. She served five consecutive aces after an Akcivi kill, completing a 25-9 set in which Campbellsville hit .615 with nine kills and one error on 13 swings.
Campbellsville adjusted its rotation in the third set and received immediate production from Miller and Taylor. Miller recorded two early kills before Taylor supplied three during a six-point stretch that gave the Tigers a 12-5 lead.
Midway narrowed the deficit to 20-15, but Campbellsville closed out the sweep behind its first unit. Hager recorded two late kills, Gallardo added her second ace, and Erwin delivered the final termination in the 25-18 decision.
Erwin's eight kills paced a balanced Campbellsville attack, with nine Tigers recording at least one kill. Vest finished with 27 assists, Retumban totaled 11 aces, and Gallardo led the back row with seven digs as Campbellsville completed the sweep in 1 hour, 11 minutes.
