Brett Neffendorf, a Beaverton, Ore. native, was hired in the summer of 2016 as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Campbellsville baseball team.
In the previous eight years, Campbellsville has broadened its recruiting territory and has seen many student-athletes make the cross-country trek to the Bluegrass state. Last season 28 of the 38 student-athletes came from Arizona, Washington, Oregon, California or New Mexico and is also the bread and butter for Nefferdorf's recruiting connections.
Neffendorf has helped the Campbellsville pitching staff become one of the best in the country year-in and year-out. In addition to recruiting, his main responsibilities are to oversee all throwing and weight lifting programs for pitchers, player development and practice plans for the pitching staff.
In the past three seasons at Campbellsville, the Tigers have won the MSC Regular Season championship (2017) and back-to-back MSC Tournament titles (2018 & 2019). Also in 2018, CU won the NCCAA World Series for the first time in program history.
In his three years at CU, Neffendorf has recruited and coached 11 MSC First-Team All-Conference performers, eight second-team and one NAIA First-Team All-American (DJ Wilson, 2018). In addition, the Tigers struck out 506 batters and recorded 17 saves in 2018 - all single-season team records. In 2018, the staff also led the conference in ERA (3.88) and opponent batting average (.241). In 2019, CU's staff improved on their numbers on the mound to post a 3.49 ERA and a .237 batting average against led by four qualifyingpitchers who held opposing hitters under the .200 mark.
Neffendorf also leads the CU baseball fall showcase efforts on campus that brings in over 100 prospective student-athletes.
Before Campbellsville, Neffendorf has seen many stops along the way. He directed the Winter Prospect Camp at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., where he worked closely with associate head coach Pat Bailey.
His previous coaching position came in Vancouver, Wash. as he was the head coach at Clark College. While at Clark, 85 percent of the team went on to play collegiate baseball at the next level and 70 percent of his players graduated with their Associates Degree. Also, Neffendorf recruited, developed and coached the first Clark player drafted in the Major League Draft since 1982 in pitcher Nick Duron (31st Round – Boston Red Sox).
Before accepting the head coaching position, Neffendorf was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Penguins in 2013-14. During his time as an assistant, Clark set the school record for least walks in a single season (99 in 384 innings) and led the NWAC in fewest walks allowed and complete games pitched (16). Neffendorf also coached two sophomores – Kyle Vanderkin and Travis Eckert – who went on to play at the Division 1 level at Gonzaga and Oregon State, respectively. Eckert went on to pitch two seasons at OSU and was drafted after his junior year in the 20th Round by the San Francisco Giants and again his senior year in the 7th Round by the Kansas City Royals.
Neffendorf started his coaching career at NCAA DIII George Fox University in 2013 in Newberg, Ore. where he assisted head coach Marty Hunter with infielders, scouting reports and recruiting.
Neffendorf has also coached in two highly-touted summer baseball leagues – Valley Collegiate League and Prospect Collegiate League. In 2013 he led the Slippery Rock Sliders to a franchise record 30 wins, 133 stolen bases and coached Matt Calhoun – the summer league Player of the Year.
In the summer of 2014, Neffendorf was an assistant under his brother, Brad, for the Front Royal Cardinals, which saw seven all-star game selections.
Neffendorf spent three summers in Portland, Ore. leading the Portland Baseball Club 18U Independent team. Under the direction of PBC owner Joe Taylor, Neffendorf helped over 30 student-athletes continue their careers at the collegiate level. In 2013, he also directed the Winter Baseball Collegiate Showcase that saw over 300 participants in three years.
Prior to starting his coaching career, Neffendorf signed with Clackamas Community College, in Oregon City, and also was a part of the Central Oregon 18U Select Summer Team and Portland Vandals 19U Summer Team. During his time at Clackamas, Neffendorf suffered an elbow injury and sat out for one season before pursuing his coaching career.
Neffendorf is the younger brother of previous pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Brad Neffendorf who left Campbellsville for Tennessee Wesleyan in the fall of 2015.
He is engaged to former Lady Tiger volleyball All-American Jana Kortas and the two are planned to get married in the fall of 2019.
