AJ Strong, a 2016 alum of Campbellsville University was added to the staff in the summer of 2016 as the running backs coach.

A native of Palmetto, Florida, Strong came to Campbellsville in spring 2013 where he was inserted into the CU lineup automatically.

He was a main cog in the Tigers’ run to back-to-back Mid-South Conference West Division championships in 2014 and 2015. He was named a second team all-conference selection both seasons after running for a combined 905 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2015, Strong rushed for 53.4 yards per game and averaged 66.3 all-purpose yards. In 2014, Strong averaged 71.8 all-purpose yards per game.

In his first season on the coaching staff at Campbellsville he help orchestrate the eighth-best offense in the NAIA that posted 492.1 yards per game, and its 4,920 total yards was sixth best in the nation last season.

During the 2016 season, the Tiger running game average 106.7 yards per game and compiled 1,067 yards on the ground over its 10 games.

Seniors Chantz Goodman and Wade Holtsclaw are slated to lead a group of young running backs this season after leading the rushing attack during the 2016 season. Goodman averaged 49.9 rushing yards per game, while Holtsclaw rushed for 38.9 yard each game. Both Goodman and Holtsclaw averaged over five yards per carry a year ago (Goodman, 6.1 and Holtsclaw, 5.1).

In the passing game, Goodman and Holtsclaw chipped in with a combined 712 receiving yards. Goodman averaged 9.9 yards per reception, while Holtsclaw averaged 10.1 yards a catch.

In addition to coaching running backs, Strong will hit the recruiting trail in the local Campbellsville area but also in the Fort Knox and Ohio County areas.
