The Patriots averaged 44 points per game to lead the MSC (5th in the NAIA) and the 437 yards per game also led the conference. The Patriots had one of the best running games in the country with 263 rushing yards per game and Garner was a main cog in leading the offensive line and H backs.

Before his time at Cumberlands, Garner was a four-year starter at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla. He earned a Second Team Sun Conference selection as an offensive lineman for the Fire.

Garner prepped at Baldwin County High School in Bay Minnette, Ala. and was selected to play center and long snapper in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.
