Mark is heading into his 9th season as the Tigers assistant coach in 2024-25. During the 2018-19 season he helped lead Campbellsville to a 22-10 record and an appearance in the NAIA National Championship. Under Vernon, Tiger basketball made back-to-back NAIA National Tournament appearances as well as having back-to-back 20-win seasons ('17-'18 and '18-'19).
With 14 years of coaching experience, all at his alma mater University of the Cumberlands, Vernon brings a slew of knowledge that will help rebuild the men's basketball program. While playing and coaching at Cumberlands, the Patriots went to the NAIA National Tournament 11 times, with the most recent a quarterfinal appearance in 2015-16.
Vernon, a native of Williamsburg, was graduated in May 2002 with a BA in mathematics and business administration. He received NAIA Academic All-American honors twice and was three times named to the Mid-South Conference Academic team.
Mark also coached at Rowan County High School in Morehead, Ky. in 2004.
