Campbellsville's Lady Tiger basketball team shot just 26% in the second half as Union University, ranked #1 in the NAIA, handed the team a 79-52 loss the season opener tonight in the Powell Athletic Center.
The Lady Tigers trailed 41-31 at halftime but Union, behind 5 of 6 shooting from the three point line in the second half, pulled away and Campbellsville never seriously challenged in the second half.
"There's a reason that Union is ranked #1 in the nation. They've got several All-Americans, last years Player of the Year and just a lot more experience than we have," said coach
Ginger Colvin after the game. "I did see some bright spots for us and I think we did have the first game jitters, but give Union all the credit," she concluded.
Campbellsville was led by
Whitney Ballinger's 11 points. The Lady Tigers will host Robert Morris on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the Powell Athletic Center.
