Tiger knock off #14 Union

Barbourville, Kentucky
Riding a five game winning streak, the red hot Campbellsville Tigers went into #14 Union College Wednesday with hopes of extending their winning streak to six games as they gear up for conference rival Cumberlands this weekend.  Not only did the Tigers come out of Union with the win, the game was a thriller that came down to the wire and it featured some unlikely contributors.

Chris Curley made his second start of the season and his second in the last week.  Curley battled his way through a tough first inning as Union's Matt Brady blasted a three run homer in the bottom of the first.  The Tigers constantly scrapped all day and came up with a run of their own in the second to close the gap to three.  Temple Macdonald and Brandon hunter opened up the frame with back to back singles, and Macdonald was eventually driven in by way of a Logan Smith single.  It was just the beginning of a day where Logan Smith went on to terrorize Union pitching.
Union answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the second, and the Tigers followed form and got another run of their own to make the score 5-2 thanks to another Temple Macdonald homerun.  Union added another in the fifth and the Tiger bats finally caught fire in the top of the sixth.  With two outs, Jason Beale was hit by a pitch which caused the summoning of Union reliever Marcus White.  With Beale on first and Logan Smith at the plate, Smith took the 2-1 fastball and blasted it over the left field wall to bring the Tigers to within two runs.  The homerun was Smith's first of the year and the first of his young college career.
After Tiger reliever Jon Bourassa threw up a zero in the bottom of the sixth, Campbellsville struck for more in the top half of the seventh.  The two run inning featured a couple of walks and was capped off by Brandon Hunter's game tying single.  Both teams pitchers would lock horns until the ninth when then Tigers would make their final blow.
With one out and nobody on base, Tiger head coach Beauford Sanders faced an interesting situation.  The Tigers had used all of their traveled pitchers and the DH was burned, so pinch hitting for reliever Marc Wilson meant the Tigers would be out of pitchers.  Sanders elected to let the junior left handed pitcher hit for himself in the ninth and it paid off in a big way.  In his first ever college at bat, Wilson laced an 0-1 fastball to the right field wall for the stand up double.  After Wison moved to third, Logan Smith tallied his fifth RBI of the day with a sacrafice fly to deep center.  After a walk, Hector Urbaneja put the icing on the cake with a 2 RBI double of this own to the left center alley to put the Tigers up 9-6.
Marc Wilson promptly went out in the ninth and allowed no runs en route to the Tigers sixth win in a row.  The win puts the Tigers at 14-12 and they sit at 7-4 in conference play.  Big hitters on the day were Logan Smith (2 for 3, HR (1), 5 RBI), Temple Macdonald (3 for 5, HR (4), RBI), and Brandon Hunter (3 for 4, 2 R).
The Tigers will head to the University of the Cumberlands this weekend for what should be another fierce conference series.  Cumberlands sits at 10-1 in conference play.
