Campbellsville University defeated Lindsey Wilson College 1-0 in the 2008 Mid-South Conference Softball Championship Game today at the Georgetown College Softball Complex in Georgetown, KY. The Tigers, who won their third straight tournament title today, scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first and then held on to defeat the Blue Raiders.
Â
The Tigers scored when a double by lead-off batter
Jessica Gunby was misplayed in the outfield, allowing Gunby to score. The Tigers threatened to add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth when singles by Erica Creek and
Elaine Briscoe loaded the bases with one out. But the Blue Raiders used a fly-out and fielder's choice to end the threat and stay within striking distance.
Â
The Blue Raiders had a chance to knot the game at one in the top of the sixth, but came away empty handed. With one out, Whitney Mink singled to center and was sacraficed over to third by Laura Sidebottom. But Tiger starter and winning pitcher
Cassidy Kroeker was able to get the next Lindsey batter to pop out to end the inning.
Â
Kroeker went the distance for the Tigers, scattering five hits over seven innings while striking out four. Danielle Clark took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings of four hit ball.
Â
For the Tigers, Briscoe finished 3-3 while
Dana Price added two hits. Mink and Shayla Cain each went 2-3 for the Blue Raiders.
Â
With the win, Campbellsville will advance to the Region XI Tournament, to be held May 7-9.
