Campbellsville, Kentucky
Momentum, momentum, momentum. It seems to be the one thing that can keep an athletic team going, and the Campbellsville University Women's Basketball team has all the momentum in the world right now. Last night, they took care of business against conference rival Lindsey Wilson College at home. In front of a packed house at home, the Lady Tigers dominated the game at times, and came away with a 65-55 victory.
The first half was not exactly what Head Coach
Ginger Colvin had in mind for her girls. The Tigers went into the locker room, and saw themselves in a situation that was uncharacteristic for them. They were trailing an opponent. Lindsey Wilson handled the hometown favorites early on, taking a 29-24 lead into halftime.
Despite the adversity the Tigers faced, Campbellsville would prevail in a huge way in the second half. Behind the smooth shooting of
Courtney Danis (14 points), the Tigers completely dominated the second half of play, as they outscored the Raiders 41-26, sealing the 65-55 victory.
Campbellsville definetely used a team effort to eclipse this victory, as three players were in double digits for scoring.
Courtney Danis and
Whitney Ballinger led the way each scoring 14 points.
Wendi Messer also added 12 points of her own. Defensively,
Whitney Ballinger single handedly dominated the game as she brought down 17 rebounds, and blocked two shots on the night.
The Lady Tigers look to take this momentum into Monday night as they will host Midway College in a non-conference matchup. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Campbellsville sits at a perfect 3-0 in conference, and are 17-3 overall.
