Campbellsville University was swept in three sets by both Evangel University and No. 20 Lindenwood University in the first day of the Lindenwood Invitational on Friday.
Lindenwood closed out the day with a 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 win over the Lady Tigers, who had 10 service errors in the match, including game point in games one and two.
In game one, the largest lead for either team was four as the Tigers never let the Lions
lead by more than two. Trailing 8-4, Krista Yoder ignited the Lions for a
quick 7-3 run which tied the game at 11. Campbellsville took control
momentarily, but committed three service errors that kept Lindenwood
close. Tied at 21, the Lions pulled ahead for good on a Kristy Dreisewesrd kill.
In game two, Campbellsville jumped out to a 6-4 lead only to see
Lindenwood respond with a 4-2 run. The two teams continued to exchange
points until the Lions converted a service ace and Kelsey Jo Vogler notched a key
block that put Lindenwood in front 19-16. Campbellsville fought back
taking a brief lead at 20-19, but consecutive kills by Kennedy and
Yoder put the Lions up for good.
Lindenwood grabbed a brief 10-9 lead in game three, but Campbellsville
raced ahead with an 8-3 run. The Lions charged back and tied the set,
sparked by two big plays from Dreisewerd. Tied at 22, Ellen Fandry recorded a
kill and Vogler closed out the match with consecutive points to give
the Lions the victory.
Evangel lost the first match of the day, 25-18, 25-16, 32-30.
Campbellsville (17-7) takes on Baker University and Missouri Baptist College on day two of the Lindenwood Tournament.
