Rio Grande blanks CU 8-0 in men's soccer

Box Score Campbellsville could not withstand an early onset of goals by eighth-ranked Rio Grande and lost Wednesday to their Mid-South Conference opponent 8-0 in a rain-postponed game from Sept. 26.

Rio's freshman midfielder Richard Isberner scored three times, once with six minutes gone in the game for the only goal that was necessary.

The Red Storm's attack created eight shots on goal in the first half and they connected on six. Scott Bibby scored at the 34-minute mark, Tim Marcinek at 21:28 and Isberner twice more and Bibby once more.



Campbellsville (3-7-1, 1-2) could not manage a shot on goal the first 45 minutes.

The Tigers did manage two shots on goal in the second half, one by Ramiro Sanchez and the other by Casey Clarke.

Rio (8-2, 4-1) added two goals in the second half as both coaches emptied their benches.

Marcinek scored with 9:40 remaining and Nick Hewison booted in the final tally with just under two minutes to play.

CU hosts Berea on Saturday at 3 p.m.
