Mackenzie Lee hit two of her eight free throws (her only points) with
.3 seconds to go as the Lady Tigers survived 77-75 Friday night in
Chicago against Robert Morris University.
"We had some players make some big plays, but we didn't get much accomplished," said coach
Ginger Colvin.
After leading 37-35 at the break, Campbellsville allowed Robert Morris
to go up by seven with five minutes gone in the second half. But the Lady
Tigers made a run and
Melly Heaton's three with 2:20 to go put CU up by
one. From then on it was back and forth, according to Colvin, whose
team improved to 2-0.
With the score tied at 75-all, Lee was fouled and drained both free throw tosses. The freshman from Mt. Sterling, Ky. also had three assist and three steals in her stat line.
Whitney Ballinger, who led the team with 20 points, played only 23 minutes because of foul trouble.
But Colvin said reserves
Corin Dunn, 10 points, nine rebounds),
Megan Isaacs (12 points, five rebounds) and Lee were the difference in the game.
Courtney Danis added 13 points, Keisa Compton 4 and Heaton 10.
"We haven't defended anybody in two games," lamented Colvin. "We've just not been very good defensively at all."
The Lady Tigers will make a stop Saturday in Joliet, Ill. and play the University of St. Francis.
