After 110 minutes of stalemate soccer it came down to one shot and one goal save.

Cassie Yannelli made the shot and Erin Grimsley saved the shot on goal as the Campbellsville University women's soccer team advances 3-2 in a shootout over Bluefield College. The win allows the Lady Tigers to meet King College in the semi-finals of the National Christian College Athletic Association regional this Friday in Covenant, Ga.

"The bottom line is we started out with no life and no passion," said coach Thom Jones. "We played our kind of soccer in the second half, but it came a little too late."



Campbellsville had beaten Bluefield 5-0 earlier in the season.

"If we play all game like we did in the second half ... we don't have a shootout situation."

Jones' CU teams are 2-1 in shootouts under him.

In the shootout, Ashley Corum netted CU's first shot to tie the score at 1-1. After the second shots were stopped, Lauren Shrader found the right side of the net again to tie the score. After Bluefield missed it's third shot, Yannelli found the net and the team swarmed goalkeeper Grimsley just inside the 18-yard box.

"I don't know why we started out the way we did," said a Jones. "We were playing in Finley Stadium for the first time and we had our fans.

Campbellsville had 13 (18-5) more shots on goal than Bluefield and outshot the team from Virginia all told 30-9.

Bluefield's goalkeeper Jacqueline Gonzalez rubbed off most of Campbelsville chances with 19 saves.

The win improves CU's record to 12-7-1
