CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — After capturing the program's first Mid-South Conference regular-season championship and earning a first-round bye, No. 23 Campbellsville University will host fourth-seeded Cumberland University in the semifinals of the MSC Women's Soccer Championship.
The top-seeded Tigers enter the postseason 11-2-2 overall after finishing 5-1 in conference play. Campbellsville shared the regular-season title with the University of the Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson University, securing the tournament's No. 1 seed through its conference goal differential of plus-15.
Campbellsville's first regular-season conference title followed a year in which the Tigers won the MSC Tournament and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. This season's top seed allowed Campbellsville to bypass the quarterfinal round and advance directly to a home semifinal.
Cumberland advanced with a 3-1 quarterfinal victory over fifth-seeded Bethel University. The Phoenix enter the semifinal 11-6-1, while Campbellsville carries a three-match winning streak into the tournament.
The semifinal provides a rematch of Campbellsville's regular-season finale, when the Tigers defeated Cumberland 3-2 on Oct. 24 in Lebanon, Tennessee. Campbellsville overcame an early deficit behind first-half goals from
Julia Ogren,
Marta Prieto, and
Oddny Helgadottir, while
Sydney Hall made five saves to preserve the victory.
Campbellsville has outscored its opponents 65-13 through 15 matches, averaging 4.33 goals while allowing 0.87 per contest. The Tigers hold advantages in shots (318-134) and shots on goal (171-66), placing 53.8% of their attempts on frame.
The Tigers have scored 30 first-half goals and 35 after halftime while allowing four and nine, respectively. Campbellsville has recorded nine shutouts and remains unbeaten at Finley Stadium with a 7-0-1 home record.
Prieto leads the attack with 14 goals, six assists, and 34 points. Ogren has recorded 13 goals and four assists,
Amelie Matheis has contributed 11 goals, and
Fiona Jolly has added 10 goals and a team-high four match-winning finishes.
Helgadottir has scored three goals, each a match-winner. Her production includes the deciding goal against Cumberland, which helped Campbellsville secure its share of the regular-season championship and the tournament's top seed.
Hall has made 48 saves with a .787 save percentage and a 0.96 goals-against average across 1,213 minutes, 31 seconds.
Verena Schneider has not conceded a goal in 134:12, stopping all four shots she has faced.
The winner will advance to the MSC championship match Nov. 10 and face either second-seeded Cumberlands or third-seeded Lindsey Wilson. The tournament champion earns the conference's automatic berth in the NAIA National Championship.
