Second-seed Campbellsville University won its first match of the NCCAA Volleyball National Tournament, 3-0, over Pensacola Christian College Thursday afternoon.
CU jumped out to five- or six-point leads in each match en route to wins of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-6.
Samantha James helped serve CU to seven straight points to build the lead in the first set. James had two aces in the match. CU took a few points to slowly build its lead in the second set, but opened set three with a 6-0 lead.
Caitlin Dresing served most of the Lady Tigers final points in the match, as a hitting error by PCC sealed the match.
Renee Netherton,
Whitney Haynes and
Christiana Sindelar each had seven kills to lead CU's attack, while
Caroline Martin had five kills, 24 assists, 12 digs and two aces.
Shannon Cahill had 14 digs and Caitlin Dressing had 11.
Brooke Marcum had six kills in the first match. Haynes had four service aces.
Campbellsville (33-13) meets Malone University at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night. CU beat Malone in four sets in five sets in its season opener Aug. 28 at Malone's tournament.
