Montgomery, Alabama
Â
Many new faces suited up for the Tigers in Alabama as the Campbellsville University Baseball team opened their 2009 season against #15 Auburn University Montgomery. Long story short...the bats got going early, pitching prevailed, and the Tigers are 2-0. They took the first game by a score of 11-3, and took the night cap in dominant fashion
Â
In game one, Campbellsville got the sticks going early. To lead off the second inning, Senior
Nathan Quesenberry (Elizabethtown, Kentucky) was hit by a pitch to start the three run rally.  After Quesenberry was moved over,
Logan Smith (Campbellsville, Kentucky) blasted an RBI double off the left field wall.Â
Chris Curley (Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky) capped off the inning with a screaming double down the left field line.
Â
Game one starter
Marc Wilson played his part, shutting out the Senators for the first three innings. After Auburn made the game a close one, the Tigers pulled away for good.Â
Chris Curley blasted his first homerun of the year to dead center to give the Tigers their 11th run of the game en route to the 11-3 win. In the win, Curley led the charge going 3 for 4 with a homerun and two RBIs. Wilson went 4.1 innings in his win.
Â
Game two was all the same story as the Tigers rode the arm of
Ian Pick (Santa Clara, California) who threw a shutout in his first game of the year. The Tigers got out to a fast start, racking up 6 runs in the first inning.Â
Colin Bryan (San Jose, California) led the game off with a single and 8 of the 9 batters would follow to reach base. The inning was capped by the first of two
Jimmy Voelker (Placerville, California) homeruns.
Â
The Tigers never looked back and they went to take the win 16-0 over the nationally ranked Senators. On the day,
Jimmy Voelker was simply unstoppable. He homered in his first two at bats and singled in the next. Those four hits led to 10 RBIs which is a new Campbellsville University record.
Â
The Tigers will look to continue their momentus ways as they will travel to the other side of Alabama's capital city to face Faulkner University.
