Swimming has strong showing at Cumberlands

Campbellsville University's swim team has qualified four swimmers in seven individual events and five relay teams for the National NAIA Swimming and Diving Championships to be held March 4-7 at the Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Mo.  Meagan Pickett and Lindsay Ritchey, Brooke Cato, and Tori Reiss secured national times in the breaststroke, freestyle and backstroke, respectively, and relay teams have qualified in the 200 free, 200 medley, 400 medley, 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle races.

"I am very excited about what we have accomplished with more than half our team being freshmen and this being only the second year for the program," said coach Lindsay Newton Hines. "We hosted our first home meet in January and came away with our first team win since the swim program was restarted."

Campbellsville University has updated its pool facilities, according to Hines, adding backstroke flags and poles as well as new starting platforms and a newly-renovated locker room.

Pickett, a freshman from LaCenter, posted an A-cut time in the 100 breast (1:11.75) and a B-cut in the 200 breast (2:46.98). She also posted a B-cut time in the 200 free (2:08)

Cato, a freshman from Bowling Green, made a B-cut time in the 50 free (:26.83) and 100 fee (:58.53).
